The fourth round of the 2024 NASCAR season is upon us, and this weekend’s action takes us to the Phoenix Raceway. It has been an exciting start to the new season, with thrills and spills across all races held so far. There will be a lot to look forward to in the race, especially the new short-track racing package, which will be run for the first time under racing conditions in the Cup Series.

Although the Phoenix Raceway is not a short track, it’s close enough for the organizers to see how things work before the first short track race of the year at Bristol the weekend after. The Trucks won’t be running with the Cup and Xfinity Series cars on the weekend, as they will be at the Bristol Motor Speedway for their race. Instead, it will be the ARCA racers battling it out on NASCAR’s season-final track on Friday.

The rest of the schedule for the weekend is the same as what fans are used to: the Xfinity race on Saturday and the Cup race on Sunday. Tickets for the weekend have mostly sold out, but fans looking to grab some last-minute tickets, can find them on the official Phoenix Raceway website.

Despite not having the Truck race, Phoenix has a packed schedule this weekend

The action starts on Friday at 3:30 p.m. ET with the practice and qualifying sessions for the ARCA Menards Series race. This will be followed by 50 minutes of a Cup Series practice session on FS1 at 5:05 p.m. ET. Fans watching at home would want to stick around on the same channel through NASCAR Race Hub at 6 p.m. ET before the first race (ARCA) at the Phoenix Raceway kicks off at 8 p.m. ET. That’ll be that for Friday’s racing action, and then come the main events starting Saturday.

In the Xfinity Series, Austin Hill has been a dominant force, finishing in the top 5 in all 3 races so far. There will be a lot of intrigue around him, and fans will get a glimpse of him first on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. when the practice and qualifying sessions for the Xfinity race will kick off. FS1 will then play host to the qualifying session for the Cup Series race at 2:10 p.m. ET. Following that, the Xfinity Series race will kick off at 4:30 p.m. ET.

And then, it’s NASCAR Cup Series race day. There’s only going to be one racing event at the Phoenix Raceway on Sunday. The new short-track racing package will be all the hype as drivers will get a feel for how it feels under competitive conditions for the first time. It sure promises to make for intriguing viewing. The race will be aired on FS1 at 3:30 PM ET.

Fans going to the venue can breathe easy this weekend, which is more than what they can say of their experiences of late. The Clash and the Daytona 500 were postponed due to adverse weather conditions, and fast winds threatened the Las Vegas weekend, which had kept some people on edge. Phoenix, in that respect, is a treat.

According to The Daily Downforce, it’s going to be perfect racing conditions on all three days at the Phoenix Raceway. The ARCA Menards Series race (Friday) will see clear skies and temperatures going into the 70s and dropping into the high 60s after the sun goes down with a 0% chance of rain. The wind speed on the day is reported to be 7-8 mph from the southwest.

It’s going to be more of the same for the next couple of days as well. Saturday’s forecast shows clear skies with temperatures going up to 76 degrees Fahrenheit and no chance of rain. The wind will be blowing from the east at a breezy pace of 8 mph. Sunday is going to be a warmer one for the Cup Series racers, as they will have to endure a high of 80 degrees Fahrenheit under clear blue skies. The wind from the east will be slightly stronger this time, at 9–10 mph.

It will be interesting to see how things pan out on the track because weather is not going to be an issue at all. The main focus for a lot of people will be on the Cup Series race, which will see the drivers run a new package. All in all, there’s going to be a lot for race fans to be pretty excited about.
