After handing Australian driver Will Brown his NASCAR Cup Series debut at Sonoma, it looks like Richard Childress Racing has lined up yet another debut run for a promising youngster. According to the rumors and unverified images of a Cup car online on social media, it seems like Xfinity Series driver Parker Retzlaff could make his Cup Series debut with RCR.

The visual shared by NASCAR fans online appeared to have Retzlaff’s initials on the race car. Moreover, the Chevrolet logo on the windshield was enough for everyone to speculate that it was an RCR car. Neither Kyle Busch in the #8 car nor Austin Dillon in the #3 car have been able to get the results this season. So it looks like RCR could be on a hunt for their next driver, which only adds to the current drama of the silly season.

As far as Parker Retzlaff’s 2024 run is concerned, he has been hot and cold driving the No. 31 Jordan Anderson Racing car. Apart from his initial top-5 finishes at Daytona and Atlanta, the 21-year-old has struggled to find consistent results. He did manage to grab a pole win at Martinsville Speedway, so it’s fair to say he fancies his opportunities in a good-running race. And that is what RCR could offer him in the Cup Series.

We have seen the likes of Corey Heim and Shane van Gisbergen compete against the top dogs in the Cup Series. But again, there’s a counter to this argument: Is Retzlaff ready to climb the ladder? Given that he has yet to prove himself in the Xfinity Series, the fans certainly didn’t want to make use of this development. And they took to social media to express their opinions regarding a potential debut run for Retzlaff in an RCR car.

The Xfinity Series was seen as a stepping stone or a playground that would essentially allow the drivers to transition to the Cup level. However, modern-era drivers seem to have bypassed the tradition thanks to their OEM partnerships. “I remember when you had to win some races in Xfinity to even sniff a cup ride. Now some guys are getting cup with only a handful of Xfinity starts. I don’t get it.”

Apart from his pole win, which came this year, Retzlaff doesn’t have anything else to solidify his claims as a good race car driver. Sharing a similar sentiment, a user wrote, “Wait, hold up what Parker retzlaff”.

While others had doubts regarding the driver’s ability to compete at the top level, some were open to this idea. Just because it would allow them to see him replace Austin Dillon, who has not been in the good books of RCR fans. “Good. I’d love to see him replace Dillon one day”.

Surprisingly, some even argued that provided Retzlaff finds himself good racing equipment, he could deliver some good performances. “How many wins does the organization he drives for have ok 1 plate race gotcha. He’s out performing his equipment that’s why he’s good”.

Without any official confirmation, it is hard to say that RCR is indeed planning a debut run for Retzlaff. But if these rumors turn out to be true, there could be a major shuffle happening inside the RCR camp.
