NASCAR has been honing a group of young legends recently. Connor Zilisch is currently the youngest among them, becoming a prodigy after winning the 2024 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona. Currently, the 17-year-old is expanding his horizon. He will add another event to his 18th birthday bash this year: debuting in the second tier of NASCAR racing.

Connor Zilisch slowly advancing through the ranks of NASCAR

JR Motorsports announced the delightful update on X. They tweeted, “NEWS: It’s his time @ConnorZilisch will make his @NASCAR_Xfinity Series debut at Watkins Glen in September behind the wheel of the No. 88 Chevrolet. Additionally, Zilisch will compete at Kansas Speedway (Sept. 28), Homestead-Miami Speedway (Oct. 26), and Phoenix Raceway (Nov. 9).”

JRM CEO Kelley Earnhardt Miller also expressed her excitement in inducting the angry young man into the Xfinity level. “We couldn’t be happier to welcome Connor into the JR Motorsports family and to give him an opportunity behind the wheel of our No. 88 Chevrolet.”

Connor Zilisch also bubbled with enthusiasm while talking about his newfound opportunity. “It’s a dream come true to have the opportunity to race in the Xfinity Series with JR Motorsports for select races this year,” said Zilisch. “I have a lot to learn considering that I’ve never raced on any big tracks previously, but there’s no better team to learn with than JRM.”

Zilisch is setting his goals high for this year. He is ramping up ambitions by trying his hand in several racing tracks.

The Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup is returning to the legendary Sebring International Raceway this week. Alongside its renowned racers like Selin Rollan and Gresham Wagner, two new faces will grace the race. Both Connor Zilisch and established NASCAR Xfinity driver Jesse Love will enter the grid.

Bob Pockrass updated the news on X: “Both Connor Zilisch and Jesse Love will race the Mazda MX-5 Cup race this weekend at Sebring. It is a weekend off for Xfinity, so Love is getting more race experience on road courses to prepare for the year.”

Zilisch will have a jam-packed schedule, racing in both, the MX-5 Cup and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. “I really enjoy Sebring,” Zilisch said. “It’s got a lot of character and it’s one of the more unique tracks in the country, so getting to race there in Mazda MX-5 Cup is going to be a lot of fun.”
