Matt Kenseth walked away from NASCAR at the end of the 2018 season. However, he returned in 2020 to replace the suspended Kyle Larson. Although he has not stepped into a NASCAR car for a race since then, it does not mean that he has not been keeping himself active. In fact, he competed in a different kind of race.
Away from the motorsports arena, the former Roush Fenway Racing driver became the third NASCAR racer (after Jimmie Johnson and Danica Patrick) to complete the Boston Marathon.

He crossed the line with a time of 3:01:40, finished 3,576th, and placed 141st in the men’s 50-54 age division.
Kenseth’s time was the fastest by a NASCAR driver at the Boston Marathon. He beat the then 43-year-old Johnson’s time of 3:09:07 and Patrick’s time of 4:01:21.

What did Matt Kenseth say after the race?
The NASCAR racer connected with CBS after his run at the Boston Marathon. The 50-year-old said, “I think just pacing yourself in the beginning. There are such big crowds, and you couldn’t really pass people, which was kind of good. It kind of held me back. I think the biggest challenge is just not to kill your quads in all those downhills.”

“It was so different than any other marathon I’ve ran and saving something for the end, so once I got over the top of Heartbreak Hill, I actually felt really great and turned it on. And I finished really strong, so I was happy with that.”
This is hardly the first time Kenseth has displayed his more athletic side. A few years ago, he and some fellow NASCAR drivers competed in The Assault on Mt. Mitchell. For the uninitiated, this is a 102.7-mile bike ride up Mt. Mitchell, which boasts of an ascension of over 10,000 feet.
