Kyle Busch arguably has one of the best success stories in NASCAR, having faced countless hurdles and rising above them all. From being knocked down by injury to bouncing back and achieving great success, he has truly defied the odds. Even if we fast forward to the present, rain-shortened races like Chicago and Atlanta Motor Speedway would have definitely been a tough nut to crack. But, despite the challenging circumstances, Kyle Busch of Richard Childress Racing has managed to perform well.

In addition, it was unquestionably his commitment that allowed him to finish in the top 10 of the past seven races despite bad weather and a less-than-ideal car. Even so, a large part of the credit for Kyle Busch’s improved standing in the Chicago and Atlanta races also goes to his crew chief.

One of the former NASCAR crew chiefs and racing experts emphasized this point by discussing the challenges that Busch has experienced in previous years and how he still manages to finish in the top ten.

How did Kyle Busch manage to come out on top despite all the adversity he faced?

In 2023, Kyle Busch merged with one of NASCAR’s most illustrious teams when he joined Richard Childress Racing stable. However, subsequent stories indicate that RCR was not yet prepared for him.

During his first year with RCR, everyone assumed that the decision would be a breather. And although that’s exactly what happened, RCR has greatly benefited from Kyle Busch’s tremendous consistency and top-10 finishes, but it was mainly because of the extra efforts put in by the NASCAR driver.

According to Larry McReynolds, Kyle Busch made things right by getting RCR back on top. That is why he deserves all the acclaim he has been getting. While talking about the Atlanta Speedway race, he went on to mention that They knew they did not have a car that could go up there and probably win. And Randall Burnett, who does a really nice job working with Kyle and maybe even with strategy, they finished much better than they were running.”

In addition, he let some details go about how Kyle Busch has been successful while facing many challenges, including the penalty for speeding on the pit road. Larry Mac claims that is something Busch needs to work on as well. “They’ve got the consistency right now; just clean up a few other things, and this could get Kyle maybe his third Cup Series championship and RCR’s first in 29 years.”

In fact, it seems even Kyle Busch feels the same about the race, as he acknowledged their shortcomings as a team at Atlanta.

Following his fifth-place finish in Atlanta, in a post-race interview, Kyle Busch discussed the team’s struggles and the race as a whole. “We for sure see the mistakes that we’re making. We need to get better on all of that; we all need to clean up our work,” Busch said.

He added, “I was so close on a couple of times on breaking through into the top 10 or top 8 to get that track position, to finally get out of that swarm, out of that nest, but I’d get chucked to the bottom and I’d get sucked back or I’d get put up in the fence with the Noah Gragson thing.”

Later, Busch also went to talk about why he felt he could have done better than a fifth-place result in Atlanta. As per an NBC report, Busch said, “Tonight’s race was all about minimizing mistakes and minimizing the number of cars that get by you while you’re trying to make moves. It was definitely a different game.” The two-time Cup winner went on to say that he and his team were “really happy” with the #8 Camaro after fine-tuning it at each pit stop.

Even so, Busch expressed regret that they were unable to continue since they were capable of “more than a fifth-place finish.”
