While his performance at Indianapolis was not as impressive as the one in Chicago, Shane van Gisbergen has got a lot of people talking, thanks to his impressive driving skills. He won his debut NASCAR race and managed to finish in the top 10 in his second. SVG has been on the minds of NASCAR fans, analysts, drivers, and basically anyone who has an affinity to the sport for the past month and a half. After his win in Chicago, it was all but confirmed that the Kiwi will join the Cup Series as a full-time driver in 2024 when his Supercars contract runs out. It is yet to be seen which team he will join but many believe that the Supercars champion already has a course mapped out for his proper arrival in NASCAR.

There is no doubt that SVG is a tenacious racer with a hunger to win on every race weekend. His skills on track speak for themselves and he will be raring to get into the Cup Series full-time and hit the ground running. But have you ever wondered what kind of underwear the Supercars champion wears? On a recent episode of the Door Bumper Clear podcast, Brett Griffin answers that very question.

In conversation with Freddie Kraft, TJ Majors, and Casey Boat, Brett Griffin, out of the blue, talked about Shane van Gisbergen’s underwear. The co-hosts were caught completely off-guard but burst out into laughter later on.

Griffin also shared how he was in the same bathroom with SVG and how the latter’s team members were helping him zip up his race suit.

“He wears white fire underwear,” Brett Griffin said, out of nowhere.

“Oh is it?” responded TJ Majors.

“Good to know,” said Casey Boat.

“I was in the bathroom with him….they helped him zip up his suit. His zipper was in the back,” Griffin continued.

“Jason Schultz has been following him around everywhere videoing him so I wouldn’t be surprised I wouldn’t be surprised if he followed him in there,” Majors joked.

Jason Schultz is one of the people in charge of photography, videography, and social media for Trackhouse Racing. He was particularly focused on Shane van Gisbergen for his second race with Project 91.

The guys over at Door Bumper Clear might have been joking about SVG’s underwear but they and everyone else know how good of an athlete he is. The Kiwi has been all over the world, pursuing various motorsports titles and now, it seems like he has his eyes set on the NASCAR Cup Series.

Ahead of the Cup Series race at Indianapolis, Shane Van Gisbergen and his old acquaintance, RACER’s Marshall Pruett recalled the early days of the Kiwi’s career when he was known as the “next guy” even before he had won a race.

“You were the next guy, you were showing yourself, you were on the way. Hadn’t won a race yet, but you got that solved and started adding more […] Even back then when we spoke, you said I’d love to try some of this, ‘I’d love to come to America.’ How’s the stream working out mate,” he said to SVG.

“I did a lot of DT stuff in Europe. GT here, and yeah, now to come and try NASCAR and seeing what Project91 was doing last year, to come and be part of it. And then now, it’s leading to more. Very, very cool,” SVG said about his journey around the world in motorsport.
