Having talented drivers from other racing federations transition to NASCAR is beneficial for the sport. And as international appeal is good for the sponsors too, Shane Van Gisbergen’s intentions of driving full-time in NASCAR have given rise to a lot of anticipation. People have high hopes for this New Zealand-based Supercar sensation, as he has bagged a win in his debut race at the Chicago Street Circuit. Next, he will race in the upcoming race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

However, there is a lot more to that. After all, Australian V8 supercars, Indy cars, and NASCAR stock cars are very different in terms of grip, stats, and features. Hence, it might be a challenge for SVG as he pursues his career in NASCAR. Although some NASCAR analysts think that he will learn faster than others, a NASCAR Truck Series driver threw light on the probability of a rivalry being born.

What is Shane Van Gisbergen’s biggest threat in NASCAR?

In an episode of Door Bumper Clear, T.J. Majors and Brett Griffin had a conversation with the #42 Chevrolet Silverado driver, Carson Hocevar, regarding the future prospects of SVG in NASCAR. While the others were worried about his inexperience with Speedways and stock cars, Hocevar mentioned a name that might pose a significant threat to the Supercar sensation.

Road courses are Shane Van Gisbergen’s area of expertise, but running a road course race like in Chicago and running on ovals like Indianapolis are two very different things. According to TJ Majors, being dominant among the other competitors will be difficult for the street course race winner. Show host and NASCAR analyst Brett Griffin asked Hocevar, “How hard is it gonna be for him to get here?”

“Man, I don’t know… ” said Hocevar, “I am curious how he performs because there’s a race within the race. Because he is racing Brodie Kostecki too, he’s coming over. They race each other all the time. It seems like Brodie wins a lot. His name is obviously circling around.”

The Trackhouse Project 91 part-timer will share the track on August 13th with Erebus Motorsport driver Kostecki, who will be driving for Richard Childress Racing. F1 Champion Jenson Button and ex-F1 driver Kamui Kobayashi will also join the Supercar duo on the tracks.

After 3 national championships and earning 27 feature wins, Kostecki is no stranger to racing. He currently sits in Rank 2 in the Repco Supercars point standings, where SVG sits 4th. He could also become a big name in the world of stock car racing. Driving the number 33 car is special, as it was once driven by “the intimidator” himself.
