With their 300th win falling into their bag of achievements, Sunday’s round of 12 opener contention ended on a sweet note for Hendrick Motorsports. But not so much for Kyle Larson. After winning the opening race of the round of 16 at Darlington Speedway, Kyle Larson was considered a lock for another win in the opening race of the round of 12, earning a ticket as direct entry into the round of 8. But his Texas outing dimmed with just 20 laps to go.

Kyle Larson had one of the fastest cars in the entire grid and was going for the win. However, despite capitalizing on his speed, an unfortunate turn of events sucked him into the outside wall and slammed him with a DNF. But Bubba Wallace was made a scapegoat when a controversial FOX Sports article accused Wallace of calling his fans unceremonious names.

Despite having the faster car, Kyle Larson found Bubba Wallace next to his door a few moments after the final late-race restart. As they entered Turn 2, Kyle Larson got loose and hit the wall. While fans are blaming Bubba for having wrecked Larson, the replays clearly showed that they did not even touch.

Jordan Bianchi demanded a justification for the fans accusing Bubba Wallace. Sadly there were none. The Athletic’s Jeff Gluck said that people were making him the egg of their wrath just because he is Bubba.

Gluck said, “FOX News wrote an article about Bubba Wallace, calls race fans dumba**es. So this is the Bubba thing now. If you look at what happened with Larson, it was just a racing deal here.”

However, Jeff Gluck went up to Larson’s crew chief Cliff Daniels, and asked what he thought about this. It appears that with the usher of the next generation of cars, people take for granted that one can run these cars as close as possible to another and the side force won’t really suck the car around. But that is definitely not the case with Texas Motor Speedway.

Texas Motor Speedway does not really have a lot of room to pass and the next-gen cars need space to run smoothly. Gluck explained, “Larson is racing without the fear that the car is going to do that because these cars really haven’t done that as much.”

According to Gluck, Daniels said, “When you lose that side force, it is instantaneous. You have no warning. Even the best dirt racer in the world can’t save that.”

Bubba Wallace eventually went on to win the pole in the qualifying laps at Texas Motor Speedway. And moments later, he tweeted, “Round of 12 and we’re just getting started. Pole SITTAHHH😮‍💨” He said, “Started out practice, really really strong. Under drove it, so I needed to overdrive it and qualify and it paid off. So appreciate it, all the support, all the hard work from the team.”

Fans, however, did not wish him well and poured spiteful comments in the comments section.
