Saturday night on the track at Daytona will be forever remembered by Bubba Wallace. He may not have scored a victory on the track of the superspeedway, but he did seize a playoff berth for the first time in his Cup Series career. With the chances of entering the postseason fading with each passing race, Michael Jordan’s prodigy could only wish for no new faces to enter the victory lane.

Lo and behold, the heavens did answer his prayers.

It was RFK Racing’s emerging star, Chris Buescher, who notched his 3rd victory of the season, thus sealing Wallace’s fate in the playoffs. However, had this climactic end solely hinged upon the notion of new victors, Bubba Wallace’s confidant would love to differ, as he spilled the secrets that led the driver to maintain his track record in an interview with MRN Crew Call.

Bubba Wallace’s close associate lifts the curtains on his playoff secret

It is evident that the third time did turn out to be the charm for Bubba Wallace. In his third year with the 23XI Racing team, the racing prodigy was finally able to alter his fortune and enter the post-season along with his teammate Tyler Reddick and co-owner Denny Hamlin. As the news broke, emotions took center stage as Wallace tried to control his glistening eyes.

However, was the achievement solely based on Wallace’s lucky fate, or was it a collective effort of the team that gave an impeccable outcome in Daytona?

Well, Wallace’s confidant and the man who pulls all the strings for the team seemed to agree with the latter option. In the Steve Post and Todd Gordon interview, Wallace’s crew chief, Bootie Barker, spilled the beans that provided the impetus for the driver to seize the playoff berth.

Barker revealed, “I think all of us were, the best I could say is that all of us were serious. He (Bubba Wallace) was serious, he was taking things seriously all of us too. Some people though I don’t know that can work for him. I think that might add more pressure.”

“The pressure was there, actually, we weren’t trying to work around and what more we did. Bubba and we all sat down, ‘Hey, like this is real’. We acknowledged it, got serious about it, saying we were going to do what we could and we all stepped up. But he did wonderful,” Barker further added.

There was no denying that the intense pressure weighed down the shoulders of Bubba Wallace, as it eventually reached a breaking point. Speaking on making it to the playoffs, Wallace in the post-race interview added, That was the most stressed but also the most locked-in I’ve ever been. Knowing that (Daytona) is mostly out of your control, I just tried to focus on doing the things that I could do. Missing that wreck was massive.
