NASCAR presents the Rookie of the Year award to the driver who has had the best first year in the season. This year, Austin Cindric took home the 2022 Rookie of the Year award while Harrison Burton and Todd Gilliland were the runner-ups.
However, NASCAR fans are now interested to know when Ty Gibbs will be eligible for the award. Recently, a Twitter user asked NASCAR insider and Fox Sports reporter Bob Pockrass about Gibbs’ qualifications for the Rookie of the Year award. And as a reply, Pockrass posted an explanation tweet.
In his tweet, he stated that Ty Gibbs, as well as Noah Gragson, might be eligible for the Rookie of the Year award in the 2023 Cup Series. However, he did mention that his guesses are not always right. Here is the basis of Pockrass’ conjectures.
Rookie of the year eligibility is on a case-by-case basis so won't know who will be rookies until January most likely. I would guess both Gibbs and Gragson to be eligible since they haven't run full Cup seasons and haven't earned points in Cup, but my guesses aren't always right. https://t.co/TWfaFRFVBe

Will Ty Gibbs race NASCAR Cup Series full-time?
Although Ty Gibbs is still quite young to race in the full-time Cup Series, his experience in the format has been quite tumultuous. In 2022, Gibbs substituted for Kurt Busch, who could not continue his races due to concussion-like symptoms. Driving the #23 car for 23XI Racing, Gibbs participated in the 2022 Cup Series races alongside experienced drivers.

He said; “It’s definitely been a lot of aging quickly. A lot of experiences. … It’s been fun. If it wasn’t fun, I wouldn’t be here. There is going to be a lot of people who are not for me, and that is part of the path I took. I knew that was going to happen before I was going to do this gig. I just mind my business and do the best I can.”
