With the end of the 2022 NASCAR Cup season rapidly approaching, people will undoubtedly look to the future. One of them is the Stewart-Haas Racing team. Currently, the organization plans to retain Cole Custer for the upcoming season. Although he has been underperforming, team owner Gene Haas wants to give him another chance. However, Tony Stewart wanted to give Ryan Preece a shot. Finally, they approached Kevin Harvick for a chance to re-sign.
However, it is interesting to note that Harvick is not interested in re-signing. Considering that he is 46 years old, the former NASCAR champion may seriously think about calling time. He is already a Cup Series champion, so he really does not have anything to prove on the race track.

How did NASCAR fans react to the possibility of Kevin Harvick retiring?
A lot of people acknowledged that Harvick’s time is soon going to be up. There might come a point in his life when other things take a higher priority, like his children. After all, his son Keelan is a budding race car driver, so he could try and train the next generation of Harvicks. At the same time though, Stewart-Haas Racing may be keen to retain him because there may not be someone worthy of replacing him.
I think he’s about done with racing. Got a son to watch develop. 👍

I’m not surprised Harvick is nearing retirement, dudes pushing 50, has young kids and has made it well known he doesn’t like the new car
This man literally was the guy who replaced the great Dale Earnhardt Sr.
I wasn’t even born when that happened— Ira Williams (@IraWilliams8771) October 17, 2022
Furthermore, Kevin Harvick has been pretty outspoken about the Next Gen car. This is largely from a safety standpoint, especially since a few drivers have been injured in wrecks. Harvick is not the only one, as fellow veteran Denny Hamlin has also been outspoken on the matter.
Depressing but understandable for him. Amazing career and it's not over yet.

One thing is for certain, when he eventually hangs up his boots, it will be a big loss for the sport. He has been a strong contender for the Cup Series title in many years of racing. Additionally, he is vastly experienced, with 22 years under his belt.
