As the 2024 season heads to Darlington, there is one more thing than the race itself that has everyone on their toes. Yes, the Official Throwback Weekend of NASCAR is the next on the list! And SVG will make heads turn.

For the NASCAR Xfinity Series Spring Race at Darlington, multiple drivers are set to run a throwback livery. In a similar fashion, the #97 Kaulig Racing Supercars Champion and inaugural Chicago Street Race winner, Shane van Gisbergen, will be honoring a fellow Supercars Champion. He will be running a different set of colors than the usual white, which has left fans wanting to see the legend return on track.

Since 2015, Darlington has been the host of the throwback weekend for the championship. This is the weekend teams bring out the old paint scheme instead of their usual ones. Some bring back vintage designs and some honor legendary drivers.

Hence, SVG will be honoring Supercars legend Marcos Ambrose at Darlington for the throwback livery week. The driver will be rolling onto the track with a yellow and black paint scheme, which is an apt celebration of Ambrose’s NASCAR career.

It’s the same paint scheme that the Australian drove to a historic victory at Watkins Glen in the final lap of the 2012 race. Upon seeing the throwback paint, Ambrose was “humbled” by SVG. He further shared how he considers himself an SVG fan and how privileged he feels to have been in the same shoes as him once. “I feel privileged to have experienced NASCAR just like SVG is now”.

And while Marcos Ambrose acknowledges this nostalgia of a time gone by, fans, on the other hand, were too emotional. We understand why they could not help but ardently hope to see the legend back on the track.

Upon seeing the emotional tribute, fans on Reddit demanded to see the Supercars Champion back on track. One fan wrote, “Dude I’d love to have Ambrose back in a competitive ride. Let’s go Project 91!! And good luck getting him to leave Tasmania.” Project 91 is an initiative by Trackhouse Racing that aims to bring in international drivers to race in the NASCAR Cup Series by fielding the #91 Chevrolet- we guess it would be a fitting way of bringing Marcos back on track.

A couple of fans hoped that RFK Racing would sign him to drive the #60. “YOOOO BRAD GET THIS MAN IN THE 60 PLEASE!!” Another fan wrote, “Wish Rousch would get him in the 60 for one of these Road Courses!”

Fans who have been following NASCAR for a long time and have seen Ambrose race expressed their wish to see the Australian back on Road Courses.

“I miss him so damn much. He was my driver for my return to NASCAR fandom in 2012. Seeing this picture of him made me feel (dramatically) like I was seeing an old friend for the first time in a while.”

“I still think Ambrose is the best road course racer ever in NASCAR.”

Ambrose won back-to-back Supercars Championships after narrowly missing out in his last season before leaving to pursue his NASCAR dream in America. The Supercars Champion has 227 NASCAR Cup Series starts and two victories, 46 top 10s, and three pole positions under his belt.
