Earlier this year, NASCAR announced that it is exploring the opportunity of electrical vehicles. Moreover, NASCAR COO Steve O’Donnell revealed that car companies like Toyota, Ford, and Chevrolet had expressed interest in the concept.
Furthermore, he shared that an all-electric exhibition series might take place in 2023. However, in a recent tweet by Adam Stern, it came to light that the said exhibition will not take place next year. This doesn’t mean that the governing body is taking a step back. But it just means that 2023 will not mark the beginning of this electric exhibition.
As soon as NASCAR fans came across this post, the comment section was filled with a myriad of opinions. Fans said that they were relieved over the news. Interestingly, most of them reacted negatively to the entire concept of electric vehicles in NASCAR.
Hopefully it is canceled forever!

It shouldn’t start anytime soon, nascar has way bigger fish to fry like making sure the teams can fund themselves so they don’t die while the suits roll around in TV dollars

I give zero shits about seeing an electric series. Now, tell the Phelps clown we want 1000hp.
— Benny (@Ben_4_fan) October 13, 2022
It should never start
— Travis Lourie (@Travadelic) October 13, 2022
If you switch over to electric I'll be switching the channel. I went to 1 Indy 500 & just about fell asleep, no joke, it was so damn quiet.
— Joy ODonnell (@Joy23ODonnell) October 14, 2022
Although NASCAR fans have not been able to come to terms with this new concept yet, the governing body is quite excited about this new shift. Seeing this as a step in the right direction, NASCAR hopes to create a world where the original series and electric series can coexist.

Why is NASCAR in favor of electrification?
Earlier this year, Canalys, a market research company shared that a 109% growth has been documented in the sale of electric vehicles since 2020. Hence, seeing this data as a huge opportunity, NASCAR aims to tap the new market. Moreover, Steve O’Donnell feels that this can be a huge part of the sport’s future.

He said; ” As everyone knows, there’s a huge push across all of our (original equipment manufacturer) partners, and even potentially new OEM partners. So it’s important for us to explore that space. I think there’s a lot of interest from our current partners to be part of that.”
