Most of the money that a NASCAR team pools comes from sponsors, and that’s a known fact. But when a special collaboration comes through, drivers are seen in unique jumpsuits and liveries, which bring about excitement from fans and viewers at home. Usually, when a team decides to go for a custom paint scheme, there are only two outcomes possible. You either love it or hate it. And sometimes, the line between loving and hating a livery can be so thin that it leaves fans divided.
So when Joe Gibbs Racing revealed their new livery for the upcoming Daytona race on Sunday, despite it having an important figure at the front, fans could not decide if that’s something they liked or disliked.
The launch of the movie Reagan on August 30 became the reason why Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 54 car will race with unfamiliar colors. Being over the top could be one of the ways to describe the livery, as the whole car is covered in the colors of the USA flag with pictures of Reagan on the door panels and hood.

Ty Gibbs will be driving the Reagen livery car at the Coke Zero Sugar 400 just 5 days before the movie premiere, and millions of fans are waiting for the movie to drop. Although the excitement is at an all-time high for the movie, the same cannot be said about the car. So let’s take a look at what fans had to say when they first saw the Reagan livery.
Fans are left with mixed emotions after seeing the Reagan-covered No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing car
One fan’s reaction was, “This car is all over the place. I can’t tell if I like it or hate it,” perfectly captures their conflicted feelings. The livery’s design, filled with a bold tribute to Reagan, leaves them torn. On one hand, it’s visually striking, but on the other, it’s almost too much to process.

This fan’s reaction, “It looks good; I’m quite surprised that Ty got sponsored by a movie,” shows confused fans as they have a reason to be both happy and sad at the same time. The fan is impressed by the livery, finding it appealing to see the Reagan-themed design with the colors from the national flag. However, they’re also taken aback by the fact that Ty Gibbs is being sponsored by a movie, something they didn’t expect.
“Under the lights, this will look crisp,” said one fan, who seemed to be looking forward to seeing the livery on the track. They believe that once the lights shine on the car, it will look much better than it already does.

Finding a specific flaw in the design of the car, this fan said, “Logos and colors are the only thing that work on these cars. These photorealism schemes are always hideous.” While it is all up to opinion, this fan would prefer something more subtle compared to how over-the-top this design is.
