If there is one thing that NASCAR fans despise, it is when live action is interrupted by commercials. Recently, NASCAR anchor Mike Joy spoke about Fox Sports’ coverage of the races and the influx of advertisements. Numerous fans had complained about the excessive commercials during the Cup Series races and Joy was quite unsympathetic. In fact, he was rather condescending in his remarks, and the fans bore down on him like a pack of wolves.
During the broadcast of the Cup race at the Phoenix Raceway, while announcing the last commercial break of the stage, he called out the fans as “keyboard warriors.” This has led to an online feud between the announcer and a section of the fans.

The veteran announcer offered a truce to “those stung by my [his] ‘keyboard warrior’ comments.” He posted a series of three tweets, making his stance clear.
He finished his response by posting, “Hope you enjoy watching the races as much as I enjoy bringing them to you. Its a privilege, not taken lightly, and a labor of love. Thanks for all the messages of support. Let’s move on.”

A small number here have an agenda. They stirred the pot to suit their purpose, and I should have ignored them.— Mike Joy (@mikejoy500) March 22, 2023
In light of this, Denny Hamlin raised his own issues with the broadcast, namely the caricatures. He responded to one of Joy’s tweets and made a peculiar request regarding the caricatures.
Mr. Joy while we have your attention could we make a small request with the cartoons? Thanks in advance. https://t.co/eWZ55FNBce

To that, Joy responded, “Thanks Denny. The “superhero” illustrations are part of the FOX “look” across all major sports. This will run its course; the next version of the graphics package could look quite different. I’ll forward your ask to LA.”

Obviously, this was the trigger for fans on Reddit to give their own suggestions for the broadcast package. Apparently, there was a bit of a common theme, that of “anime.” One fan said, “Aaaaaand the next package will now look like anime. Specifically early 2000s anime. At least Cody’s gonna have Naruto hair.”
Another one name-dropped this biggest rivalry of the past couple of years, saying, “Ross Chastain is gonna have the Death Note. Denny is going to be L, trying to hunt him down.”
One fan even declared, “If you aren’t excited about this now, you will be when you see Kyle Busch going super saiyan.”
