Did NBC just cover up Goodyear's tire flaws? Fans deserve better transparency!

It looks like Goodyear tires are back to their usual self in the NASCAR Cup Series at Michigan International Speedway. Not just one car, but in total three drivers had flat tires during the Stage 2 run of the race. Both Joey Logano and Todd Gilliland had their right rear tires south on them. Soon, the N0. 16 of AJ Allmendinger suffered a similar fate.

The tire carcass from Logano’s car was detached and landed on the racetrack. To add to the misery, the broadcasters couldn’t catch the incidents on the racetrack as the coverage was under a commercial break. Next thing you know, fans were quick to lash out at both NASCAR and Goodyear for the mockups on social media platforms.

In the past, we have seen a bunch of drivers lose their tires during the race. But all three drivers blowing up their tires was rather unusual and led, which does put Goodyear’s tire in question. Up until a few weeks ago, the option tire received positive feedback for its effort to improve short-track racing. However, the good old slicks on the ovals had something off, at least during today’s race at Michigan.

Another irritating factor was the untimely interruption during the live broadcast. Fans usually appreciate NBC’s coverage over FOX for catching all the action and not bothering them with commercial breaks. However, with the NASCAR Cup Series in Michigan moving forward ahead of its original schedule, it seemed to have played its part. But this change and adjustment came at the expense of the race fans, who lashed out at the broadcasters.

Fans frustrated with NASCAR’s race coverage along with tire woes for the Cup Series race in Michigan

The teams often temper the pressure of the tires on their racecars. This allows the car to stay lower and closer to the racetrack. However, that could be the case for just one car, but all three of them blowing their tires up was indeed surprising. This was evident from this fan’s reaction online, “Why did everyone’s right rears blow at once.”

Have an interesting take?

Although the race telecast didn’t completely switch to commercials. They went side-by-side, but this feature wasn’t enough as fans were unable to know what was unfolding during the race. “IDK i was watching a stupid ass commercial right before a stage break. So you tell me.”

Goodyear has been NASCAR’s long-term partner in providing the essentials to its race cars. One-off incidents with tires can be excused, but multiple cars losing their rubber is certainly a worrisome sight for them. This fan was quick to highlight that with this comment, “That was not good from Goodyear.”

Usually, the first 14 races of the season are tough on the fans who are watching them live on TV. FOX tends to go into a commercial break for every 10 laps or so, but NBC’s shenanigans have brought back some sour memories for the fans. “We have no idea because your TV partner went to commercial during a battle for the lead prior to a stage break.”

Meanwhile, some RCR fans found solace in this tragedy for Logano after his rant about unfairly losing the race to Austin Dillon at Richmond. “Glad Joey had that tire go down. That hypocrite karma hitting hard.”

It looks like Goodyear’s job on their tires is only half done with today’s mishaps. As far as NBC’s coverage is concerned, hopefully, they are back to their usual selves at Daytona.
