NASCAR fans were witness to a heartwarming gesture on Sunday. Though everyone was aware of the tribute that Richard Childress was going to give to Kevin Harvick and his spellbinding career, no one would have anticipated the barrage of emotions that swept across the speedway. Kevin Harvick made his final start at the Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday. As the Stewart-Haas Racing ace’s glorious career is nearing its end, Mr Childress decided to make the event as impactful as Harvick’s first victory in the Cup Series.

On Sunday, the iconic #29 car that led Harvick to bag his first NASCAR win was brought out of the Richard Childress Racing Museum. This was perhaps the best tribute that could have been given to Kevin Harvick, given that he took his first checkered flag at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in 2001, in the very same car. Earlier, Richard Childress had announced that the #29 car would take one more lap around the track, as a pace car. This was to not only commemorate Kevin Harvick but also Dale Earnhardt. After all, it was after the Intimidator’s tragic death that Harvick joined Richard Childress Racing full-time.
