Fast cars and rock music have laid the foundation stone for modern America. Being the shark of the racing sea that it is, NASCAR has collaborated with many chart-topping bands over the decades. This year, the promotion once again sees one of its teams shake hands with another globally acclaimed chartbuster.

Jimmie Johnson-owned Legacy Motor Club has come together with Guns N’ Roses, the hard rock band from Los Angeles. The partnership between the two powerhouses came early in the year, when Erik Jones’ No.43 car sported the band’s livery. However, a recent showcase of the partnership has sent fans go berserk.

In the week before this year’s Daytona 500 that came in February, LMC treated fans with the news that Guns N’ Roses would be the No. 43 car’s title sponsor for the race. The car was to be driven by 27-year-old Erik Jones, and it sported a black-gold color scheme with the band’s name, which drew the admiration of many fans. Reacting to his team’s announcement, team co-owner and NASCAR legend Jimmie Johnson shared an interesting post on X. “My first concert was Guns N’ Roses, San Diego Stadium (Jack Murphy) 1992… I can promise you, my 17-year-old self did NOT see this coming,” he said.

Months have passed since the Daytona 500. As we edge closer to the climax of the ongoing season, the collaboration lives on to the excitement of Jimmie and racing fans. The No. 43 car has been making appearances on the band’s shows across states, and the most recent was at the Music Midtown festival in Atlanta.

The feature of Axl Rose’s band on LMC’s car is only the latest on a long list of such partnerships. We have seen Tyler Reddick drive cars with the themes of ‘Killswitch Engage’ and ‘Megadeth’ in 2019, Dale Jr. with the names ‘Staind’ and ‘Green Day’, and it just goes on. The purpose of such cross-industry associations really has just one purpose: reaching a wider audience. With NASCAR beating on every front to take its game to the younger and global spectator, their moves have struck a chord with current fans. This one Reddit user and racing fan was in total alignment with the promotion’s purpose with his comment.

While others got on the bandwagon to celebrate the occasion, a couple of fans were taken back to the blistering ‘Daytona 500’ day in February as they commented, “That Guns N Roses car was so sweet to watch going around the track man.

”, and “I forgot that collab ever happened. It was really damn cool though!”. The black-gold color scheme has always been a NASCAR favorite. Most recently, Hendrick Motorsports Chase Elliott’s Camaro had sported similar colors at Bristol but was met with skepticism from fans for totally different reasons. Erik Jones’ Camaro however, has nothing but love as another user posted, “I usually have a ‘meh’ opinion on one-off paint schemes. Not for that car. It was badass.”

Though LMC and its drivers are out of contention for a Cup Series championship this year, it is only Jimmie Johnson’s maiden year as team owner. In addition to all the drastic changes that he has implemented in the garage, his partnerships outside the track go a long way in showing that he means business in the years to come. Let’s wait and hope LMC comes back stronger next year with Axl Rose and his tribe still behind their back!
