The grass is always greener on the other side. While the phrase may just be a proverb, for NASCAR fans at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, the phrase was a reality. As heavy rain marred play, the 260-lap race was cut short to 185. Red flagged due to a storm moving in, NASCAR announced Hendrick Motorsports’ #24 driver, William Byron, as the race winner.

While the in-race happenings of the Quaker State 400 were enthralling, fans were fixated on the lush surroundings of the track.

The final lap of the first stage at the Quaker State 400 saw Ryan Blaney inch ahead of Kyle Larson in a photo-finish stage win. Stage two was marred by crashes as multiple cautions flew out. HMS’ William Byron was the first to spin out in stage two following a slight tap from Corey LaJoie. The end of the incident-filled stage two saw RFK Racing’s Brad Keselowski emerge as the stage winner. With the race progressing into its final stage, NASCAR announced to curtail the last 75 laps. As William Byron was in the lead when the race was cut short, NASCAR unanimously decided to hand over the Atlanta title to the HMS #24 driver.

The in-race happenings aside, what stole fans’ attention was the unnaturally bright green grass surrounding the track’s inside line. Fans were further intrigued when William Byron‘s second stage spin-out appeared to have no effect on the lush green vegetation. As Byron’s #24 Chevy attempted a heavy-footed turn while on the vegetative patch, the grass somehow remained intact. Posting a photo of the #24 Chevy on Reddit, one fan called out the anomaly writing, “You can say what ever you want! I’m getting off this track. You can believe it or not believe it. But I’m telling you right now that this mf’ing grass is not real. You can sit on this track and die or not.”

As the Reddit user pointed out the abnormality, other Redditors quickly joined in putting forth their own views.
