Last week saw Darlington host the 12th round of the NASCAR Cup Series race. The Raceway saw Joey Logano come out as the winner after he hit William Byron on the closing laps to pick the first win of the season. However, it was Chase Elliott who won the Best in Show Throwback title.

It was a bitter-sweet experience for Hendrick Motorsports. As the team saw one of their cars get knocked out by Logano to lose on the win, on the other hand, another car picked up the Paint scheme award voted by the fans. However, not all NASCAR fans agree with the decision.

Chase Elliott sported a look to put a tribute to Jimmy Means. The No. 9 paint scheme paid tribute to the yellow and blue look that Jimmy Means ran in 1993. Elliott’s Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 got the award before the start of Sunday’s race at Darlington Raceway.

NASCAR fans don’t agree with the Chase Elliott decision

As Hendrick Motorsports posted about the achievement on their official Facebook page, the fans flocked in to show their dissatisfaction. Fans of NASCAR voiced their disagreement with the decision.

The ardent followers of the sport had to say that another Hendrick Motorsports driver, William Byron, could’ve won the award instead. Moreover, people referred to Trackhouse Racing cars more than that of Hendrick’s.

The Trackhouse Racing cars of Ross Chastain and Daniel Suarez received good support overall as an alternative. A fan wrote on this, “As an Elliott fan, I disagree with this. My favorite was the 24, and the Trackhouse schemes were also on point.”

Another Byron fan wrote, “Lifelong NASCAR and #24 fan but fans got this 100% wrong. There were so many others that were better. Trackhouse with both cars, Lajoie and the #24. Popularity wins again for no absolute reason.”

Given below are some of the fan reactions taken from Facebook.

As an Elliott fan, I honestly have to disagree. The 24, 1, and 99 were amazing.”

“Even though I’m a Elliot fan a trackhouse car should’ve won the vote. They were probably both a top 5 all time throwback.”

“William Byron had the best throwback paint scheme.”
