As is the case with all things related to Bubba Wallace in and out of NASCAR, it’s not surprising that the reaction to the decision of him driving the #45 car in the playoffs was met with a certain level of distaste amongst the fans.

The #23 driver will be driving the #45 car in the absence of Kurt Busch, whose season took a drastic turn after his concussion injury has him sitting out indefinitely.

23XI emphasize on “best chance” to compete for the championship with Bubba Wallace

Despite missing out on the playoffs courtesy of an inconsistent season full of errors from his end and from his team, Bubba Wallace will still compete for the championship this season.

This was something, which according to Steve Lauletta, the President of the team, is a unique opportunity that can still give them something to squeeze out of an, otherwise disappointing season.

“Kurt put us in the playoffs and isn’t able to finish out the mission,” Lauletta said. “The whole point of this is to put our team in the best position to get as far in the owners’ championship playoffs as possible.”

“While Ty [Gibbs] has done a great job for us in the No. 45 car, we feel that Bubba’s experience in this car, at the upcoming playoff tracks, and his recent momentum will give 23XI the best chance at maximizing our points each weekend,” he added.
