The Dash 4 Cash initiative has helped a lot of drivers since its introduction in the 2009 season. The most recent beneficiary it has made $100,000 richer, Anthony Alfredo, is the epitome of what an ‘underdog’s triumph’ truly looks like in NASCAR. His 2024 resurgence evidenced by a fifth top-10 finish has pushed the #5 Chevy driver into the limelight yet again.

But, now with the Dover Xfinity Series race in most of our rearview mirrors, and the final Dash 4 Cash prize handed out, Alfredo has expressed some ‘disappointments’ regarding his on-air neglect, at the hands of FOX’s below-average Xfinity broadcast. And the fans made their voices loud, supporting Saturday’s P9 finisher, targeting the lack of some much-needed post-race coverage.

Still searching for a Top 3 National Series race win, Alfredo’s five-or-so years long NASCAR career has been a rollercoaster ride already. The 25-year-old has already driven for Cup Series heavyweights such as Richard Childress Racing and Front Row Motorsports. Though his RCR run was only a part-time season in the Xfinity Series, Alfredo has shown plenty of passion after returning to Our Motorsports, after a somewhat dismal year with BJ McLeod in 2023.

But his biggest triumph as of late has been the hard-fought Dash 4 Cash prize he received at the end of the Xfinity race at Dover, beating three other drivers. However, what would be a “huge accomplishment for our team and sponsors,” left Alfredo thoroughly disappointed as he took to Twitter to make the candid inquiry: Did my post-race interview with Regan not air on TV? Haven’t even seen it on social yet either.”

Some in attendance confirmed that the interview with Regan Smith was displayed at the venue. But after confirming no existing TV records, Alfredo’s Twitter updates outlined that he was hopeful “they have the replay and can at least post it to social media like their others.”

The fans, on the other hand, did not take this incident lightly. With collective dissatisfaction growing due to consistent blunders and seemingly half-hearted coverage of the second tier, Alfredo’s grievances caused by FOX  made it onto the NASCAR subreddit. One spectator harshly opined, That about sums up FOX this season and honestly the last two or so as well.”

“You know what the hilariously sad thing is? Fox thinks it does a great job,” replied another. But as one comment laid out the ‘big problem’ fans notice with Alfredo’s supposed snub, reading, “F*cking pathetic. What’s the point of even doing the Dash 4 Cash if Fox isn’t even going to care enough to interview a huge upset winner?”

Many others commendably opined on Reddit, “Air-time like this for a smaller team is crucial”, establishing the great feat Alfredo and his team has achieved despite challenges.

Alfredo’s Dash for $100,000 is even more impressive considering Jeff Gluck recently revealed that Our’s solitary one-car Xfinity team has only 13 employees with minimal resources and zero technical alliances. The three other participants for the final Dover Dash- Jesse Love, Riley Herbst, and Ryan Sieg– represent teams with major technical alliances or are already allies of teams across the three NASCAR National Touring Series. Alfredo emphasized this fact further during post-race interviews.

In a statement to Speedway Media, the Connecticut native said, “We came in knowing we were the underdog… We don’t have any technical support. No team alliance. We’ve been punching above our weight. You don’t understand how small our budget is compared to these other teams.”

The #5 driver currently owns the 11th spot in the driver rankings for the Xfinity Series, coming off back-to-back top 10 outings on some of the most treacherous tracks of the season. It’s only a matter of time before Alfredo’s second series woes convert to the premier tier.
