Aside from weekend races, one of the most anticipated events for NASCAR fans is the Dale Jr Download podcast. While the former HMS driver has hung up his boots in the Cup Series, his opinions, messages, and stories hold significant importance. This weekend’s Dirty Air segment saw Jr shed light on his incident with a mysterious driver, who intentionally wrecked him while he was already dealing with a concussion.
Interestingly, Dale Earnhardt Jr did not reveal the driver’s identity while speaking on his show. In sharing the story of the incident, Jr did not hold any punches, and the funny part about this incident was that Dale Jr finally got his payback after the unnamed driver could not make it into the final four of the championship race.

The JR Motorsports co-owner, over his course in racing, had suffered some 12–18 concussions. Some were not too serious, while the others seriously affected his ability to race. NASCAR racing is nothing less than a contact sport, and the constant wrecks and bumps do take their toll on the drivers.
Speaking on the DJR podcast, Jr shared, “I got wrecked by a driver one year, it was in the playoffs about eight races to go. I’m racing like hell, I’m going through these concussions… I’m taking the air away from the guy behind me and he finally got sick of it and we got into turn one, he just bumps me into the left rear, send me into the wall”,” I got a little foggy and got a little concussion from that. I was so pi**ed off. All of that was A-hole’s fault for doing that to me”.
But it was Dale Jr who had the final laugh, as the driver who wrecked him failed to make it into the top four of the championship race. “Weeks down the road, and that driver ends up failing to make the final four and we had this big driver text group conversation going on and I was like I feel better. I’m glad you didn’t make the final four because of the sh*t you did to me a couple of weeks ago,” Jr went on to add.
Dale Earnhardt Jr shared all the fine details and his hilarious reaction to the incident, but like a good movie, he sort of ended the story with an open ending. Leaving it to the fans to identify the mysterious driver.

Considering that Jr was talking about the playoff rounds, it had to be somewhere between 2014 and the 2017 season. This was enough for the fans on Reddit to come to the verdict that it was indeed Carl Edwards who pulled off the dirty move on Jr while racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway during the playoff race of the 2015 Cup Series season.
It all started with a post by a fan who coined the theory that it must be Carl Edwards who was behind the incident, while also asking others for their opinion: “I’m certain it’s Carl, but curious if anyone else has any other guesses”.

Agreeing with this, another fan shared an insightful detail, “Ironic, Junior won the race in Phoenix that ended Carl’s hopes at a title that year”.
One particular fan wasn’t sold on the idea and suggested that it could have been any driver that caused the incident with Jr. “Could also have been Chris Buescher or Tony Stewart, they each caused one. So did Kevin Harvick but “flipping awesome” would make less sense there”.
While most were sure about Edward’s involvement, one fan defended the former JGR driver. “Not exactly Carls fault if he has a tire going down. That was a brutal wreck in general”.
