“Thoughts and Prayers out to one of our FDNY Racing Crew members. Our own Bob Rahilly was injured in a housefire yesterday afternoon and is in the hospital still with 3rd degree burns and injuries. Please keep your thoughts and prayers with him at this time.” They shared this update on X. Meanwhile, a NASCAR fan added more information and clarity about Bob Rahilly’s contribution to the sport.

“Bob is the former co-owner of RahMoc Racing. I wish him a fast recovery and pulling for the whole FDNY Racing team ❤️” Rahilly operated and owned a Cup Series race team named Rahmoc Enterprises alongside his partner Butch Mock. The team competed in multiple Cup Series races from 1978 to 1993, when the two partners parted ways. Despite the closure of his team, Ramhoc Enterprises still remains active and services smaller NASCAR teams by supplying engines and parts.

The team Rahmoc Enterprises housed renowned NASCAR drivers like Neil Bonnett, Dick Trickle, and Joe Ruttman. During their initial years, the team was competitive and racked up wins, especially with Bonnett, who added four Cup Series wins during his tenure. But with Rahilly returning to his roots building engines and parts, the team couldn’t continue their good run. Whereas Butch Mock began his team, Butch Mock Motorsports.

Veteran driver Rick Mast would serve as the team driver from the 1997 and 1998 seasons. However, Mock couldn’t keep the team afloat and would eventually sell his team to Darwin Oordt. The new entity would run the No. 75 car, but with a lack of funding and sponsors, they folded as well after the end of the 2000 season. Meanwhile, Bob Rahilly would continue to work with the NASCAR team alongside his brother, Dick, at the original Rahmoc facility on Flowes Store Road, North Carolina.

In an interview with the Charlotte Observer, the industry veteran revealed the reason behind the closure of his team and opting to work with his brother.

Running a Cup Series team was too stressful with limited resources

It is just hard to see teams like Rahmoc Enterprises in the Next Gen era. Back in the day, passionate owners opted to compete with the best even if they were thin on manpower and resources. Well, things were pretty good for them in the early goings as they won the Coca-Cola 600 race with Neil Bonnett. However, with the changing dynamics of the stock car racing and limited resources, the project didn’t make sense to Rahilly.

“Cup racing was strictly business, with a lot of money on the line and a lot of pressure. I think a lot of the problems we had when we raced our Cup team were the result of us being a very small team, 18 to 20 people at the maximum. The workload we took on led to sleep deprivation and an enormous amount of stress. It wore everybody out. It was a very difficult life.” Bob Rahilly said in an interview.

They even played a role in Josh Berry winning the Late Model Stock car championship in 2012, showcasing their strengths as engine builders. No wonder, his current situation has left the community in shock, and a lot of fans are praying for Rahilly after his near-death experience with the house fire.
