Chris Hacker, a part-time driver in the NASCAR Xfinity and Truck Series from Indiana was seriously injured after his accident on his way to Daytona. The 24-year-old underwent emergency surgery at the Prisma Health Medical Centre in Columbia, SC, after being hit by a semi-truck on a highway in South Carolina. But there is now some positive update regarding his condition as he recovers in the hospital.

The statement released by Hacker’s team stated that his Ford Mustang was hit by a semi-truck, which crossed the center line and caused a head-on collision. Hacker was not scheduled to race at Daytona this season but he was traveling to serve as a mechanic for Xfinity team Joey Gase Motorsports.

Providing an update, his team wrote on X, “Chris is in good spirits, and his family has flown to South Carolina to be with him. He will remain in the hospital while he recovers, but hopes to be able to return home in the coming weeks. He appreciates everyone’s thoughts and prayers and looks forward to a speedy recovery and getting back on track.” In the statement it was also revealed that a CT scan showed “numerous injuries,” but he is expected to make a full recovery.

It was a P25 finish for Hacker, the last time he competed at the Daytona International Speedway. This time around, he was only looking to add value to the Joey Gase Motorsports team, serving as a team mechanic.

Hacker’s only race at Daytona came last season under the On Point Motorsports team banner. Still trying to find his route and a full-time seat, the driver has yet to register a major win or achievement in his name. His career-best finish was a P12th in the Truck Series at North Wilkesboro Speedway.

Hacker also posted an update from the hospital bed with visible injuries to his abdomen and cuts on his arms and hands. Hacker captioned the post, “Hey Alexa, play ‘Life is a Highway'”

Additionally, Chris Hacker was in the news last year as well, but for all the wrong reasons, as the driver was previously banned from racing in the NASCAR Series after being arrested for DWI.
