The NASCAR Cup Series is coming back to Nashville in 2021. Today, NASCAR made the official announcement of Nashville’s return to the calendar.

However, it’s the Nashville Superspeedway in Lebanon, Tennessee. And not to the short track that ruled every racing discussion for a great part of the last two years. The track is a 1.33-mile long D-shaped oval. And it hosted the NASCAR Xfinity Series races from 2001 to 2011.

NASCAR journalist Adam Stern reveals in a tweet. He says, Nashville Superspeedway is tentatively slated to host a June 2021 NASCAR Cup Series race, per @Tennessean.”

After that, he said, “This likely means that SMI’s bid to host a race at Nashville Fairgrounds will not be ready by ’21.”

Currently, Dover Motorsports own the classic track. And the organization will announce the date of the event in one of their two current Cup Series weekends. The track has been out of use for some time now. Earlier, The track was a well-known testing site for NASCAR crews. However, after the governing body set a testing restriction on all the three top NASCAR divisions it hasn’t been used much.

Dover wants to run NASCAR races in Nashville for a long period of time

Autoweek reports say that Dover is giving up a date after their discussions with Speedway Motorsports. The team hopes to persuade Tennessee Governor Bill Lee to support the legislation on ‘ticket tax’. The tax will cover the expenses of redesigning and renovating the Fairgrounds Speedway.

After that, Dover Motorsports, COO, Mike Tatoian said in an interview with ‘The Tennessean‘ that their goal to keep the speedway running for a long period of time. In the interview, He said, “The anticipation is to operate the facility for a long time,”

Additionally, The market is very crucial to the sport because of the solid TV ratings it can provide. Additionally, the 2019 Cup Series banquet held in Nashville was a huge success.
