In 2021, a significant incident occurred when Denny Hamlin found himself in a crash with Chase Briscoe at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This incident sparked numerous questions, particularly regarding the penalty imposed on Chase Briscoe. A tweet featuring a video caught the attention of many, showcasing the critical moments during the two-lap overtime restart. The video captured Denny Hamlin leading the race with Chase Briscoe on the outside entering turn 1. However, as the cars navigated the corner, Hamlin lost his grip, pushing Briscoe wide into the grass. Briscoe managed to regain control and rejoin the race, albeit receiving a black flag for cutting the corner.

As the race progressed to turn 10, he made contact with the rear of Denny Hamlin’s #11 Toyota, possibly in retaliation, causing Hamlin to lose control of his #11 car and miss out on a road course win. Interestingly, Chase Briscoe admitted to being unaware of the penalty for running into the grass and not reentering the track legally.

The aftermath saw both drivers engaging in discussions on the pit road regarding the incident. Later, during post-race interviews, the two took jabs at each other. Chase Briscoe clarified that Hamlin’s push caused him to miss a turn and asserted that he didn’t intentionally wreck Hamlin. Nonetheless, the incident cast doubts on Briscoe’s penalty.

As the resurfaced video circulated, it once again ignited a fierce debate within the NASCAR community, prompting the fans to revisit past incidents involving Denny Hamlin.
