In what has been aptly dubbed as the ‘silly season’, defending NASCAR Cup champion Joey Logano’s journey took an unexpected turn as he got eliminated from the playoffs after a disappointing race at Bristol. However, despite the setback, Joey Logano remains optimistic about Team Penske’s future prospects. He believes that they will quickly bounce back from this slump.
The defending champion entered the playoffs with hopes of making a significant impact. Especially considering the resurgence of the Fords late in the season. However, disaster struck early at Bristol when Logano was caught up in a wreck caused by Spire Motorsports‘ Corey LaJoie. This unfortunate incident marked the end of Logano’s playoff journey, along with his championship bid.
However, even after the disappointment for Roger Penske‘s team, both fans and Joey Logano stayed optimistic about the team’s chances of remaining one of the fastest teams in NASCAR.

Joey Logano believes Team Penske will soon be back at the top
Despite the setback, Logano expressed optimism during a recent interview with Sirius XM NASCAR Radio. He believes that Team Penske has the potential to turn their fortunes around in the remaining races leading up to the finale at Phoenix, even if they can no longer compete for the championship.
Logano shared his perspective, saying, “If you can have speed, right? And you have it for a little bit. It doesn’t disappear. It’s just [that] everybody catches up, right? And everyone catches up and then they pass you. And then you got to just back up and pass them again, and so just… it goes in cycles. Our cycles are pretty short sometimes, and I think that’s where we need to be better.”
He emphasized the need for consistency, highlighting that their team has been the fastest in only a few races each year. Nevertheless, they have excelled during this part of the season, aligning with their goals for this year. Joey Logano revealed that the team recently held an intense meeting to formulate a game plan for their turnaround. He emphasized the importance of teamwork and highlighted the commitment of the entire organization, including drivers like the #12 and #21, to change their current trajectory.
Logano’s confidence in Team Penske was evident as he stated, “I have no doubt in my mind we will… These people are super smart. It’s the same team that won the championship last year. These people are really, really smart.” He likened the team’s current situation to a necessary but challenging experience, describing it as having to eat a slice of humble pie. Despite not desiring this position, the team is determined to learn from their mistakes and emerge stronger in the future.

While Joey Logano’s playoff exit raised questions about Team Penske’s standing in NASCAR. Fans still consider them the third-best team in the sport. Despite the disappointment, many fans believe that Team Penske, with its history and track record, maintains its position behind Hendrick Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing.
In a conversation on the NASCAR subreddit, opinions varied. But a majority still regarded Team Penske as the bronze medalist among NASCAR teams. Although RFK Racing emerged as a strong contender, Team Penske’s legacy and performance history contributed to fans’ faith in their continued success. Answering to which is the 3rd fastest team in NASCAR, one fan said, “Definitely Penske, I mean they won the Drivers Championship last year.” While another spoke of RFK, “For the last few years, it’s been pretty clearly Penske. Lately, though, I think RFK has surpassed them speed-wise. Hot take maybe.” However, the opinion was quickly discarded, “Not a hot take. They are very easily the 3rd best for a large part of this season.”

One fan pointed out, “It’s still Penske. Unless both RFK cars make the round of 8 and Blaney fails to make it, I would consider Penske ahead of RFK. 23XI is probably a bit behind RFK for 5th best, but has a similar trajectory upwards.” Another took the perspective of the drivers, “If I was a driver given the choice between Penske and RFK for a race I’d take RFK. But if it was for a season, I’d take Penske.”
