The success of the Netflix docuseries NASCAR: Full Speed will give the producers a lot of confidence for the future. With the rising popularity of behind-the-scenes sports documentaries, things are only looking good. The stock car racing body had forayed into Hollywood in the past and successfully, with the 1990 film Days of Thunder starring Tom Cruise. They have recently struck a deal with the CAA, which seems like it would be their path back to the red carpet.

It has been a long time since stock car racing has been featured in a big-money Hollywood movie. After the success of Full Speed, it is no wonder that people are confident about NASCAR having a bigger footprint in the world of films and television. It is easier said than done, but if recent developments are to be believed, there is a lot of scope.

According to Variety, NASCAR has recently signed a deal with the Creative Artists Agency (CAA), a talent and sports agency firm, to represent them going into the future. As per the article, this partnership will be instrumental in strengthening NASCAR Studios as it will look to work a lot more with the drivers, teams, sponsors, and everyone who has something to do with the racing action.

Full speed seems to be just the beginning of a lot of things to come. It may not have a similar level of success as Drive to Survive, but it is certainly on the right path. CAA will reportedly work with NASCAR Studios to nurture strategic relationships in areas like movies, TV series, podcasts, music, and others. They will also help the brand grow with various new talents.

The CAA has already played a big role in NASCAR’s future. Their investment bank and advisory firm, CAA Evolution, was the media rights advisor for NASCAR when it came to the new and lucrative media rights deal worth $7.7 billion. The deal saw the stock car racing organization reach multi-year agreements with Fox Sports, NBC Sports, Amazon’s Prime Video, and Warner Bros. Discovery’s TNT Sports.

The Tom Cruise-starring film is a legendary stock car racing movie, and it massively blew up when it was first released during the 1990s. According to reports, it grossed a whopping $82 million at the box office in the United States alone. Internationally, the film earned another $75 million. While a remake is not in the works at the moment, O’Donnell does not hate the idea.

“We’d love to see that. The more places we can expose NASCAR to with a broader audience, the better. With Netflix, when they’re advertising us in the middle of Times Square right now [for the ‘Full Speed’ docuseries] — that’s huge, and it shows what a great partner they already have been. So anytime you can expose the sport outside of a regular race weekend broadcast is big for us,” the NASCAR executive said.
