Spire Motorsports has certainly been busy in the off-season trying to bolster their driver lineup for 2025. They made a huge overhaul in their Cup Series line-up, but they will do the same at the Truck Series level. It’s important to note that they have made their intention clear of fielding four entries in the Truck Series, of which two will be full-time rides. Rajah Caruth will retain his seat in the No. 71 truck after a playoff appearance and win at Las Vegas. However, there was no clarity on who would pilot the No. 77 car as Chase Prudy was given his marching orders.

With less than a month to go for the opening weekend at Daytona, Spire Motorsports needed to move quickly to secure a second full-time driver. With Andres Perez de Lara announced as the second full-time driver, Spire has prepared themselves for the new season.

Spire Motorsports has been in the news thanks to the silly season drama. It was reported that Sammy Smith from Junior Motorsports is expected to be announced as the part-time driver for the team for the 2025 season. Like Spire, JRM has made a string of changes to their driver lineup, and only Justin Allgaier and Smith were able to retain their rides. Although there’s still a possibility of the JRM driver continuing his part-time feature with Spire, the team wanted to settle the business for their second full-time entry.

Perez made his NASCAR debut at Watkins Glen in the No. 77 Spire Motorsports truck and then returned for his second race in Phoenix. He had been plying his trade in the ARCA Menards Series and won the championship in 2024 driving for Rev Racing. Surprisingly, he didn’t have a single win under his belt, but a streak of top 5 finishes, a total of ten, was enough for him to bag the title. Given that Rev Racing had an alliance with Spire, this move does make sense, as they didn’t have to look too hard to find a new driver.

“It’s such a great opportunity for me and one that I have been working extra hard to get. It’s awesome to work with a team like Spire, and what that means for me as a driver having so many experienced and very accomplished people working with me to make the most of this opportunity. I think I’m looking forward to the competition more than anything, I’m ready to step up my game and ready to work on getting the most out of every race. Daytona can’t come soon enough.” Andres Perez said this in a press release.

The Mexican driver started racing karts when he was 11 before moving to L-A Formula 4 and NASCAR Mexico Trucks. Perez de Lara has won the 2022 NASCAR Mexico Challenge Series championship. This competition is similar to that of the Xfinity Series level in Mexico. So Spire Motorsports is trusting the 19-year-old to lead the charge of their Trucks Series program alongside Caruth. However, there are still a lot of missing pieces from the team’s driver line-up for the 2025 season.

Let us start with the confirmed drivers, we have Rajah Caruth competing in the No. 71 Chevy truck, and Andres Perez will take up the No. 77. So we have two full-time rides complete, but the question remains: What about the two part-time entries? Corey Day is announced as a part-time driver for the No. 7 truck, but he only has eight races for the 2025 schedule. So there’s a big question on who will fill in the gap for the rest of the races for the No. 7 team.

Moving on, we know that Spire has announced that they are going to bring in another entry, No. 07, for 2025. It is going to be a part-time entry, and duties for the entire season are going to be shared by multiple drivers. We know that Sammy Smith from JRM is linked to return on a limited schedule, but there’s a bigger issue at play here.

Spire has pulled the plug on its alliance with Rev Racing, and this might have led to them expanding to four trucks for 2025. Ideally, Spire wants to retain the owner points from the #2 entry, which was driven by Nick Sanchez last year, but Reaume Brothers has acquired the ownership of the No. 2 for their third full-time entry. This is where Spire is trying to get clarity on the points distribution before announcing multiple drivers to their fourth entry.

So there’s still a lot of uncertainty at the Spire camp despite announcing their second full-time driver for 2025. It will be interesting how quickly the team can settle these affairs before the racing begins in February.
