Tony Stewart is a true legend of NASCAR but his exploits go beyond the realm of motorsports. The former Cup Series champion has established himself as a philanthropist over the years. Stewart founded the Tony Stewart Foundation in 2003 which aims at financially aiding well-qualified organizations serving children who are critically ill or physically disabled, animals at risk or endangered, and drivers injured in the sport of motor racing. The foundation also brings about some interesting stories, one of which the 52-year-old recently shared.

The Tony Stewart Foundation has been a big success so far. Since its inception in 2003, the organization has donated $7 million to various causes. Tony Stewart has always been proud of the foundation and for good reason. The former Cup Series driver also revealed a lesser-known animal-lover side through the charity.

A recent video released by Stewart-Haas Racing on YouTube features Tony Stewart and Chase Briscoe. Neither man has had a Cup Series campaign to remember this year, but they had come together for a friendly conversation. It was the fourth episode of a series SHR is making, ‘Being Unapologetically Yourself’.

At one point during the video, Briscoe pulled out a picture with which his boss had a lot of memories. It was a picture of a young Tony Stewart with a tiger over his shoulder. When asked about it, Stewart revealed how his foundation was the reason why he got to meet one of the big cats. The former Cup Series driver also revealed a wild truth about his mother.

“This is a photo from a charity event we did at the ranch for our foundation and since animals is a huge part of our foundation, we have some friends at the Columbus Zoo in Ohio and there were two of these Bengal tiger cubs that they brought so it was fun because I’d lay on the ground and this particular one would just sit there and he’d just crawl up on my back, up on my shoulders, crawl up on my head, start trying to chew my hair but it was fun to have a moment like that,” the former Cup Series champion said.

“My mom’s side of the family, our grandmother, assigned you an animal when you were born and I was a tiger, my cousin was a lion, my mom was a skunk, how she got that, I don’t know. I really don’t know if I want to know the answer but…so I’ve always been a tiger guy and to have tiger cubs in our house at the ranch was something that was pretty cool for us,” Tony Stewart added.

Tony Stewart has indeed made a significant contribution through his charity. Being one of the most influential motorsports personalities in the world, he has also made a ton of contributions to the sport. These contributions were recently praised by a Cup Series title favorite.
