Sometimes, there are moments that end up uniting everyone, regardless of their background or their interest. These moments can be either blissful or dreadful in nature. One such moment recently saw NASCAR standing next to the NFL in solidarity. Unfortunately, though, this moment that brought these two worlds together fell on the wrong side of the spectrum.
Damar Hamlin, the safety of the Buffalo Bills, collapsed on the field during the game against the Cincinnati Bengals. After being administered by his team trainers and given CPR, they brought an ambulance into the field for further medical support.

At this moment, Hamlin’s condition is critical. His team also released a statement that shed some light on his condition.
“Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in our game versus the Bengals. His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition,” the statement from the Bills read according to Cincinnati.
Denny Hamlin and Clint Bowyer pray for Damar Hamlin
Right after Damar Hamlin collapsed in the middle of the game, a lot of prominent names from the NASCAR community shared their thoughts on an incident that must’ve struck a familiar chord with them. Over the years, there have been many, many serious crashes in the sport that have ended on all sides of the spectrum, some in tragedy, some in hope, some in fear, and some in miracles.
Presently, without a doubt, those in the stock car racing community were hoping for a miracle for Hamlin.
Praying and hoping for Damar Hamlin. Thinking about Ken Block and his family too. 🙏

So much respect to the Cinci crowd for showing class when likely many of them didn’t even know the magnitude of the situation. Prayers @HamlinIsland 🙏

Based on the situation in Cincinnati right now, I don’t think I’ll be fielding anymore complaints about a parade float. Sorry. #perspective

This is how I felt watching Ryan Newman's wreck at Daytona. Held my breath for hours. We can only hope Damar Hamlin can walk out like Ryan did. 🙏 #BillsMafia

The only time I can ever remember a situation like this with a Live TV broadcast was Dale Earnhardt at Daytona. The announcers didn’t know what to say and it seemed so ominous
It felt the same then and it was awful. Praying for a much different result with this

Throughout the history of the sport, there have been various incidents that have reminded everyone of the amount of danger a driver puts himself in whenever he gets in the racecar to compete in the field.
Although all incidents were unfortunate, arguably the worst, and certainly the most tragic one, was when Dale Earnhardt passed away after a fatal wreck at the Daytona International Speedway in 2001. There are also the deaths of Ricky Hendrick, Adam Petty, Clifford Allison, and more.

But then there have also been wrecks that looked incredibly serious, and they in fact were, but the driver emerged relatively safe from them. The wreck of Ryan Newman comes to mind, of Brad Keselowski, of Kyle Larson, and of Austin Dillon.
For now, all NASCAR fans and all NFL fans will be hoping Damar Hamlin’s situation mimics the wrecks of the latter, then the former.
