Last weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway was a roller coaster ride. The race had everything; multiple cautions, good battles, and a three-wide nail-biting finish; just the presentation and display of NASCAR racing fans wanted. But as far as Bubba Wallace is concerned, the superspeedway racing experience was far from a smooth ride.
It has to be noted that, apart from Daytona and Talladega, only Atlanta provides a superspeedway racing experience. But there’s a catch – The track is a mile shorter than the other two venues, along with a considerably narrow width. Thus, the drivers are dealt with tricky challenges, ones that test their sheer mental capabilities and skills. Despite finishing the Daytona 500 and Ambetter Health 400 on P5, Wallace shed light on the grueling experiences that drivers have to undergo during superspeedway races.
Taking to X, Wallace wrote, “May sound like a joke but my brain is mush. The psychological piece to plate racing is massive. Yes it’s big any other race but receiving and digesting the info from @FreddieKraft lap by lap, corner by corner to make sure you’re in the right spot is intense…”

He further explained after the race, “The racing was very intense, its the mental side. Are we going to crash? Am I making the right moves? Every corner, every straight, every lap, it’s a lot. So, I’m mentally drained just from that. You try to be cool, calm and collective the whole time and it’s hard to do in these situations.”

The 23X1 star driver may not be a fan of superspeedway racing, but as far as results go, he sure has put out a strong display to kick-start his season.

Just the start Bubba Wallace and 23XI Racing needed for the season
Bubba Wallace put in his career-best performance last season with a #10 finish in the overall standings. And starting this season with consecutive top-five finishes, he looks like a man on a mission, a feat he’s never been able to achieve in his entire Cup career. Although it might seem too early to make a prediction, but the solid start sure puts Wallace in a good position to meet his targets for the season.

The driver will get a win if he keeps on adding to his purple patch at the start of the season. Confidence is the key they say, and for the time being, Wallace is running high on that metric. Acknowledging his splendid start to the season and his desire to win the race, he wrote, “Time to really lock in and get the stars aligned. Back to back top5s is great start… but there is 24 more left. Y’all enjoy it for me. 👊🏾 Bourbon me 🥃”
The wheelman for 23X1’s No. 23 will be heading to Las Vegas for his next race. It will be interesting to see if Wallace manages to keep up this streak of top-five finishes and convert it into a win within the next few races.
