Everything is bound by time, and that is the reality. In NASCAR, some crew chiefs or drivers spend their entire careers or most of their time with one team, while most have to adapt and change positions based on the team’s needs. Darian Grubb, a highly successful crew chief at Hendrick Motorsports, had the opportunity to work with veteran teams like Joe Gibbs Racing and Stewart Haas Racing throughout his career. Despite the initial excitement, it was a surprise when SHR decided to part ways with him at the end of 2011.
However, he recently shared his experience of joining Stewart Haas Racing as a crew chief for Tony Stewart and also gave some titbits about his experience working with Rick Hendrick.

The Veteran crew chief joined Hendrick Motorsports where he joined hands with Jimmie Johnson. He then took on a new challenge at Stewart Haas Racing as the crew chief for Tony Stewart’s No. 14 team, resulting in 11 victories and the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series title. However, despite their successes, Tony Stewart’s team unexpectedly fired him at the end of 2011. Later, he found himself at Joe Gibbs Racing, serving as the crew chief for drivers, Denny Hamlin and Carl Edwards.
In a recent podcast interview on MRN Crew Call, the veteran crew chief shed light on his decision to join Stewart Haas Racing. He recalled how Mr. Hendrick himself approached him for the opportunity to work with Tony Stewart, which grabbed everyone?s attention.
He started, ?Absolutely every one of those positions has helped me grow as an individual and there were times around me changes that I didn’t wanna make.?
?Whenever I start with Stewart Haas, Mr. Hendrick himself asked me to do that to work with Tony Stewart that was something… the were a satellite team of ours we used Hendrick chassis, Hendrick engines. So Mr. Hendrick comes to us and say I really like to do this for you, you say ‘yes sir’ and it all worked out well and end up kinda bitting them a little bit because won some races and won some championships? Darian concluded. But sadly, right after the 2011 title win, Grubb was fired from the SHR team.
Recently, he showcased his versatility and experience by leading SVG’s car to victory under Trackhouse Racing’s Project 91. It serves as yet another example of how his diverse background has been instrumental in achieving success.

The twists and turns of NASCAR’s $50 million venture in Chicago presented a challenge, with an extra layer of difficulty added by a wet surface. The race faced delays and had to be cut short to 75 instead of 100 laps. These tricky conditions forced teams to rethink their strategies, but Darian Grubb, the veteran crew chief, had it all figured out.
During the “NASCAR Live” podcast, the host inquired about the situation at Chicago as well as his thoughts on restarts, Grubb confidently replied, ?We knew it was going to be close, and we?d already been watching the time for the sunset?.
His foresight and planning were evident as he understood that the buildings on the west side would cause darkness to fall earlier than the posted sunset time, making it impossible to complete the full 100 laps.
