NASCAR fans were left fuming after the news of Hendrick Motorsport driver William Byron’s penalty points being revoked for an additional fine amount surfaced. NASCAR journalist Jeff Gluck tweeted about the decision taken by NASCAR.

Gluck stated, Appeals Panel: William Byron gets his 25 points restored but his $50,000 fine is increased to $100,000. Pretty sure he’d take that a million times over though. Another NASCAR ruling essentially overturned.

Byron had spun out Denny Hamlin at Texas Motorspeedway while under the caution flag. Soon he was awarded a penalty that would see him lose 25 points and also a fine of $50,000. At first, there was speculation amongst fans that his actions were so deliberate that there would be no way out of an appeal for what happened on the track. However, fans were soon met with a surprise, after Hendrick and Byron cut a deal with NASCAR to keep his points tally intact and instead just pay double the fine at $100,000.

Fans were left unhappy following NASCAR’s decision to revoke his points penalties and they soon called out Rick Hendrick for basically offering a bribe.

Fans mostly called it to be an outright bribe and stated that they were trading the points duck decision for money.

Things like these not only upset the fans of the sport but also send a clear message that the competition is unfair. There will always be that one team that’d be in the favorable books of the organization. NASCAR is not the only sport to see this, at one point even Formula one saw this kind of favoritism for only a few teams. At the end of the day, not punishing Byron for his disgraceful actions, will only create the dialogue that the sport is unfair.
