Kevin Harvick is certainly making the most of his retirement from NASCAR racing. His first adventure led him to call races in the FOX booth alongside his friend Clint Bowyer and industry veteran Mike Joy. Not only that, he also got himself a brand new podcast show where he would pour in his thoughts and expert opinion on hot topics surrounding NASCAR.
However, keeping a race car driver away from racing is hard, and this was the case with Kevin Harvick. In order to quench his thirst for racing, Harvick returned to the grassroots level in Late Model stock car racing. However, his first outing in the CARS Tour West Series race in Las Vegas was nothing short of a nightmare for the former SHR driver.

KHI returned to racing with Harvick fielding multiple drivers across different divisions. And after Harvick finished his stint in the FOX booth, he also got his hands behind a late-model stock car. The Bull Ring in Las Vegas was his most recent adventure, which fared pretty well; he finished 4th. But he barely made it till the end of the race.
Shedding a light on his condition on the Happy Hour podcast Harvick said, “We went to Vegas Wednesday morning and I was excited about my Late Model race for the weekend, so I got to run my first CARS Tour West event, and Friday morning I got deathly sick. It was probably the most miserable I’ve ever been in a race car in my whole career.”
As it turns out the entire KHI entourage has caught a sickness; it all started with Keelan and spread across the whole team. With bare minimum energy and a really foul stomach, Harvick braved the pain of the entire race. He didn’t want to bail out on the fans and audience that had turned up to see their favorite NASCAR star back in action. Harvick’s condition even got his former boss, Tony Stewart, concerned for his well-being.
“So after the race I got out of the car, and Stewart Tony came. So he’s there; he comes up in the lounge, and I laid on the couch in the lounge the whole freaking day once it got to about lunchtime. My stomach hurt terribly bad, and I’m curled up in a ball, and he comes up after the race. You alright, bud? I got myself in the fetal position on the couch, got up and walked to the car and laid in the backseat and drove home and flew home the next day,” Harvick added.

Did Harvick's determination to race despite illness show true grit or reckless ambition?

With the return of KHI, it felt like if Harvick wanted to compete in more races, it would be under his own team’s banner. But, surprisingly, last week the former SHR driver announced that he would return to full-time racing in Pro Late Model and Late Model events with Rackley W.A.R. Racing. This deal not only covered his racing adventures but also secured his son Keelan’s racing schedule and possibly his entry into national series racing.
“If I’m gonna race, I’m going to have to run 14 or 15 races next year. Rackley W.A.R. has a solid and proven track record that will drastically improve the learning curve for Keelan and I in the Super and Pro Late Models. In return, I hope that my years of owning and operating a championship-winning truck program will help shorten Dawson’s learning curve in his rookie truck season and positively impact their truck program.” Harvick said this about his new partnership.

Through this deal, Rackley is looking to bolster its Truck program with their driver, Dawson Sutton. KHI has two Truck Series champions in their trophy cabinet, and Harvick’s experience and expertise are something that the team will rely on for next year. It is a win-win prospect for both parties involved, and it will be interesting to see how this partnership flourishes next season.
