In a rather interesting turn of events, the governing body of NASCAR has walked itself into the crossfire yet again! Even as the league is facing a serious backlash from the community following the recent debacles at Phoenix and Atlanta, the authorities are really stirring trouble with their latest revelations.
This time, it’s veteran driver Denny Hamlin’s turn to hit back at the organization while fans back him.
Elton Sawyer, the Senior Vice President of competition of NASCAR is taking a lot of heat following his fresh remarks on Sunday’s race at the Circuit of the Americas. Since his latest remarks, the whole NASCAR community has come up slamming the organization while Hamlin has a sarcastic reply to Sawyer’s remarks.

So, what is causing all the rumble?
After an eventful and action-packed race that saw plenty of intense moments, NASCAR is yet again in trouble with fans and the Joe Gibbs Racing driver throwing in sharp words.
Though the drivers are adapting to the idea of road courses in a sport known for its oval tracks, the Austin track witnessed a lot of bumpy rides with drivers slamming into one another. The bumps were particularly intense at two of the sharpest turns at COTA, which saw the drivers funnel up and go five or six wide, creating pandemonium.
However, as per Elton Sawyer’s latest address, he found the wreck-fest to be plain competitive racing, saying, “We didn’t see anything that crossed a line.” has put the sanctioning body on its back foot with his latest remarks.
Sawyer’s tone did not sit well with fans as it showed NASCAR’s inconsistency. The organization was quick to penalize Hamlin by imposing a $50,000 plus 25-point penalty for his open admission of guilt after the race in Phoenix. However, in a surprising U-turn, the Vice President riled up fans when he said, “Our DNA for 74+ years has been aggressive driving.”
Denny on the other hand used this opportunity to point out the evident double standards. His sarcastic reply to an audio clip of Sawyer’s comments posted by SiriusXM NASCAR Radio on Twitter was, “Oh really?”
Oh really? 🤨

The community quickly noticed the irony and double standards as Hamlin was fined for his aggressive racing while the Senior VP of Competition says it’s in the fabric of the sport.
Furthermore, Sawyer even justified the intense derby-like racing on Sunday saying, “we want the drivers to be able to handle that,” while he was pointing out the pros of the Next Gen cars. Once his comments reached the public, fans started bashing the organization, calling it a “lip service from the higher-ups.”
Bring back Rough Driving Penalties. You know, like they had for the majority of those 75 years until Brian France came along.

It is interesting to note that even though the sanctioning body and many fans had criticized Hamlin for ramming into Ross Chastain, this time around, he was largely backed by the fans.
