Kyle Larson expresses fear ahead of anticipated IndyCar debut

In a recent interview, Kyle Larson shared his thoughts on his upcoming venture into the world of IndyCar racing. When asked about his first test at Indy, Larson acknowledged that it made the experience feel more real. But he also admitted that it still seemed distant. He stated, “Yeah, I think so. I think yes but also no, you know. Like it’s still so far away that it truly doesn’t seem real. I think until I get in the car on the ground and fire an engine up, then I think I’m gonna be scared. When questioned about any insights he gained from being embedded with the team for a day, Larson revealed that due to the abundance of track time during the testing period, he didn’t receive many specific takeaways from listening on the radio. However, he did mention certain aspects that caught his attention. He highlighted the need to focus on them in the coming months. Larson stated, “I went to the spotter stand, kind of got to see that, see how it runs form, lines, you know where people downshift and stuff like that in the corners. I think it’s just little stuff like that… just stuff like that little things that you probably don’t even think of.

During his time with the team, Larson observed various details about the racing environment that are often overlooked. He mentioned gaining insights into the driving lines, shifts, and overall race strategy. Additionally, he was surprised by the hospitality arrangements available to drivers, such as dedicated areas for relaxation and dining. He said, “I didn’t know they had hospitality like that you know for drivers to hang out in, to get food and stuff like that. So just seeing all that stuff too was nice too, you know. I think have an idea of going next year, like what to expect on that sense and you know hearing that driver’s state even though they live in Indiana state in their motor homes every day.”

These observations allowed Larson to have a better understanding of what to expect beyond the driving aspect of the race. He acknowledges that his primary focus will be on the driving itself as the event draws nearer. However, he also recognizes the importance of logistical details, like accommodations.
