It was just last October that Kurt Busch had to painfully retire from his role as a full-time Cup Series driver and give up his #45 ride. The decision was in the aftermath of the concussion he suffered at Pocono Raceway in July last year. Not many expected the elder Busch to retire like this. His impromptu and involuntary retirement was heartbreaking for the fans. However, there’s an exciting update regarding this situation and it has come from Kurt himself.
Having participated in more than 750 races, Busch is more than a familiar face in the Cup Series. A player of his stature did deserve a fitting sendoff and the recent news gives a glimmer of hope.

Currently, Kurt Busch is serving as a consultant at 23XI Racing. It was very unfortunate that he had to retire prematurely in his very first season with the Michael Jordan–Denny Hamlin-owned team. Nevertheless, his love for the sport has kept him occupied in his new role in the Cup Series.
Recently, he had an update for his fans when he spoke with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. Discussing his chances of a return, Busch said, “Yeah just have to take the steps to get back to full-time or, you know, a cup car. And that starts with go-karts, simulator work, and my brother and I go run a late model at Hickory.”
Interestingly, he didn’t rule out the possibility of a third car being introduced with 23XI Racing. The 44-year-old said, “I gotta go and bang out like 300-400 laps and see how things go, that will be the next step. But there is a third car possibility at 23XI but you know it’s a big-time sport, big-time sponsors and things, and we will have to get things arranged and line things up when that opportunity comes up.”
