Kyle Busch’s much-debated shift from Joe Gibbs Racing to Richard Childress Racing was surely considered a drastic step by everyone. The world of stock racing was taken back when the news went public at the end of the 2022 season. Many outrightly showed their skepticism regarding the future of the 2x Cup Series champion. But as the 2023 Cup Series approaches the Playoffs, it seems that the same critics might have to eat their words.

The reason—Busch‘s gamble not only turned out to be right but perhaps the best in his Cup Series career. And this gamble is not just delivering fruitful results for Richard Childress Racing but also for their car manufacturer, Chevrolet. Owing to this fact, it seems that veteran analyst and the voice of NASCAR on Fox, Mike Joy, couldn’t help but agree with the fact.

Fan or not, no follower of the sport can deny that Hendrick Motorsports is the most successful team in the history of NASCAR. With 14 championships and 295 Cup victories to its name, no other team can flaunt such results. Throughout its remarkable journey in NASCAR, Hendrick Motorsports has always found the support of its manufacturer Chevrolet.

Owing to this fact, Chevrolet has gone on to become the most dominant manufacturer in NASCAR, while HMS has remained at the top of the pecking order on the manufacturer’s list. But it seems that things are taking a turn since Kyle Busch left Toyota-backed JGR to join Chevrolet-backed RCR.

Kyle Busch tasted his latest victory at WWT Raceway, his third win of the season. And it was a win not just for Busch but also Chevrolet. The win increases Chevrelot’s tally to 842 wins in the Cup Series. Talking about this, Mike Joy expressed to Mike Massaro, “But boy he has really lit up RCR and I would even say that RCR has vaulted past Trackhouse [Racing Team] in the Chevrolet pecking order on the basis of this season’s result so far.”

The Chevrolet camp has always witnessed the dominance of Hendrick Motorsports. Together as a team, they have amassed a total of 295 wins and currently field 4 full-time cars with HMS. But it seems things are finally on the verge of changing with Kyle Busch taking RCR to the podium. This also comes as a breather for Richard Childress Racing, making them a strong contender for the championship.

Mike Joy affirmed the fact, saying “I said on the telecast, he may not be the best driver of all time but I think he is going to be remembered as the best driver of his time. He’s there and he’s a threat to win almost every week.”

Though Busch’s addition to the Chevy camp has been highly successful, not everything has been going well for the OEM, and it is set to lose a couple of cars to the resurgent Toyota.

Despite having reasons to rejoice, things have started to look bleak for Chevrolet in the Legacy Motor Club garage. Jimmie Johnson is set to shift their manufacturing partner from Chevrolet to Toyota at the end of this season. Johnson might have considered the fact that with HMS being the OEM’s favorite, LMC is lost in the crowd, hindering the team from delivering.

The 7x Cup Series champion asserted the fact, There’s no way to get around my 20 years at Hendrick and being in the catbird seat. At Hendrick Motorsports what we amassed at the 48 car and the success that we had and kind of the sway we had not only within the manufacturer but within Hendrick Motorsports itself.” He also highlighted the fact that even with the technical alliance with Richard Childress Racing, the team has not gone up in the pecking order.
