Over the past few days, legendary NASCAR broadcaster Mike Joy has been explaining to some fans who have been critical of the number of commercials that are shown in a race, just why those commercials are so important. With that in mind, in the recent Phoenix race, a couple of interesting things happened related to Joy and the fans.
First of all, he made the mistake of calling Kyle Larson‘s stage 2 win his second in Phoenix, with his first coming in 2001 when he was only 9 years old. Later, Joy decided to call out the fans who were critical of the commercials during a race subject.
“Kyle Larson wins stage 2 by 1.2 seconds from William Byron, Kevin Harvick 2.5 back, Brad Keselowski 3.5 half back…second time Larson that has won stage 2 at Phoenix, when he did it in 2001, he won the race,” Joy had said at the end of Stage 2.

“And now for all the keyboard warriors, I’m gonna do this in the words of one syllable, the last green flag full-screen break of this race comes right now,” he said during Stage 3.

NASCAR fans make fun of Mike Joy for his Kyle Larson mistake
Mike Joy Calling out the “keyboard warriors” was something on which NASCAR fans were divided. Some agreed with his point, and some weren’t very convinced by the criticism around the full-screen commercial breaks.
But the one thing the fans weren’t divided on was his mistake with Larson’s 2001 comment.

But somehow I'm wrong for saying that Mike Joy should hang it up cause he makes so many mistakes now that he didn't previously. I'm not even listening to this clown broadcast today. I'm listening to the radio feed and dealing with it being about 35 seconds ahead of TV feed.

A few days ago, a NASCAR fan had criticized FOX about the full-screen commercials along with other criticisms to Mike Joy. “Have like 1 commercial break during each stage, 1 at the end of a stage and 1 before going back green. Idk I’m spitbalin,” the fan had written.
To this criticism, Joy decided to defend the network as he claimed what the fan was asking for would’ve “worked then but not now.”

“Nascar charges TV nearly $25M per race in rights fees. Add production costs and it takes a lot of commercials each week to try to break even,” Joy replied.
“We’d be out of business after two races.”
