Old rivalries take a long time to wear off. That is why Thomas Meseraull is still licking his wounds incurred at the 2024 Chili Bowl Nationals. A year ago, an intense battle had ensued with fellow Midget driver Cannon McIntosh. Their tires entangled, flipping Meseraull’s car in the air, which subsequently fell upside down. Officials came to help, and after he got out of the car and got to know McIntosh wrecked him, he said, “Of course it was Cannon. Can’t drive Cannon McIntosh”
Looking back at that sensational event, the veteran sprint car racer has a new outlook. Meseraull is looking forward to more diligent teamwork to avoid such untoward incidents. But alongside, the major culprit he believes was responsible for the 2024 fiasco has not left his bad books yet.

Well, the Midget star always had a penchant for wild action. Thomas Meseraull, affectionately called ‘T-Mez’ by fans, stirred up a storm during the 38th running of the Chili Bowl. As officials rushed to his damaged car and used fire extinguishers to douse the flames, Meseraull did something. He lost composure and threw his steering wheel out of the window, which hit an official. Seeing it as a violent reaction, race authorities proceeded to eject him from the race. However, it turned out to be a misunderstanding as Meseraull claimed he was merely trying to free himself from his seatbelt.
Yet Meseraull still harbors a grudge towards McIntosh, with whom the fiasco kicked off in the first place. In a recent interview with Matt Weaver of Sportsnaut, Thomas Meseraull recollected the crash. He led the race early but fell back, needing to push hard. It was then that his collision with McIntosh was the perfect coup de grce. So Meseraull dropped a massive expletive bomb on his rival: “Yeah, I mean, it’s tough when you just get yard-sailed with a hundred feet to go. I didn’t see until I was crashing, so, you know, that’s just part of racing and you know, f—k Canon McIntosh sideways with a big black d—do.”

Well, as colorful as Thomas Meseraull‘s words got, he surprisingly also had some sober points to add. He won a 55-lap feature in DuQuoin Illinois, with the POWRi National Midget League in December 2023. So Meseraull is hoping to translate that success at the Chili Bowl. “We should be much better, spent the year, you know, going through and making better changes with the motor. We have a new package here. It’s brand new as of DuQuoin so excited to get it here. DuQuoin is a smaller track so we couldn’t really utilize the power we’re making. But I feel like this is the year we break through.”
Meseraull is harboring a grudge and aims to succeed – yet his opponent seems perfectly at peace.

With the dynamic words that Thomas Meseraull had for him, Cannon McIntosh should be worried. The two have big chances of encountering each other again this year. McIntosh has won three prelim nights and fetched a podium in the main event. Meseraull has 10 feature starts with a best finish of 8th. However, McIntosh has come prepared. He recently laid down a milestone after finishing 2nd on three different occasions in his USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship career. Yet in September 2024, he fought off Chase McDermand to win the sixth running of the Driven2SaveLives BC39 and bag a $20,039 prize.
Plus, McIntosh is not rattled at all by Thomas Meseraull’s vicious threat. He simply laughed at the latter’s colorful words: “He said what?” Then McIntosh clarified what his intentions were – just to focus on the Chili Bowl and not get upset by his angry rivals. “That’s good to know. I’m here to win. I didn’t show up worried about everybody else so you can tell when you’re in someone’s head and they’re already worried about someone else, right. I came here with nothing else on my mind but winning the Chili Bowl, and I’m not on my game if I came here thinking about anything else.”
