Fans who took this move as a purposeful screw-over responded by tweeting,
Dude, ya'll were locked with a win. I'm not a Kyle Busch fan by any means, but that was low, lol. There was iterally no need for the 45 or 23 to be out there after their issues. Fans know what it was, pretty sure the announcers in the booth knew it too from–

How were you gaining points when they get reset after last night?

As a long time Kyle Busch fan, I would not expect any special favors for my guy. Period. I am dismayed by the engine failures and also the way that Toyota is discarding a 2 time champ and 56 race (Gibbs) winner and successful Toyota truck team owner.

However, a few fans who thought this was a clean move by the drivers of the teams responded by tweeting,
The 45 is running for an owners championship and every point means something to the 45 car

Neither you nor anyone at @23XIRacing owes anybody any kind of explanation. Cross-team / manufacturer alliances are secondary to each team's own objective. It's not any more complicated than that.
