After a seemingly uneventful race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, the HighPoint.com 400 Cup Series race at Long Pond treated fans to much-awaited drama. From Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson feuding in the final stage to Austin Dillon’s helmet-throwing antics, the fans at Pocono saw it all. While these events quenched the thirst of the NASCAR community, a controversial NASCAR decision left a Michael Jordan employee fuming.

While Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson gave a good Sunday show, Ryan Preece‘s spin-out changed the dynamics for many drivers.

What was NASCAR’s controversial decision?

During the final stage of the Pocono 400 event, Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman spun out from the third position, warranting a restart. Restarting the race from the second position, Denny Hamlin attempted to overtake race leader Kyle Larson. Approaching Turn 1, Hamlin got on the inside line, pushing Larson up the racetrack.

This caused Chevy #5 to bump into the outer wall. Retorting with a smack to the #5 Toyota’s driver-side door, Larson battled for the lead but ultimately fell down multiple spots.

With Denny Hamlin in the lead, Stewart-Haas Racing’s #41 driver, Ryan Preece, spun out during the last lap of the HighPoint.com 400 race. Left stranded on the race track, his spin-out warranted a caution to be flown. Instead of yellow-flagging the race and calling for a restart, NASCAR withheld the caution, facilitating the race’s completion.

As Denny Hamlin drove to his 7th career win at Pocono Raceway, 23XI Racing’s Nick Payne (who spots #45 Tyler Reddick) was left fuming. With Tyler Reddick finishing in the 2nd position, Nick Payne could be heard over the #45 team radio as he yelled, “Yeah, that should have been thrown last time when someone was destroyed on the backstretch. That’s (expletive)!”

Nick Payne was seen as infuriated with NASCAR’s controversial decision to withhold caution.

During the last lap of the Pocono 400, SHR’s Ryan Preece was on the outside line. Entering Turn 2, the #41 Mustang was tapped on the right side by Corey LaJoie’s #7 Chevy. Spinning out, the #41 car slammed into the outside wall before careening across the track toward the inside line. While fans were busy booing Denny Hamlin for his controversial win, Ryan Preece’s Pit Road antics completely flew under the radar.

Reaching Pit Road, a visibly angry Ryan Preece climbed out of his car, charging toward Corey LaJoie’s #7 Chevy. With Lajoie’s window net apparently down, Preece reached inside the car. This resulted in blurting a barrage of expletives at the Spire Motorsports driver. In the ensuing drama, it also seemed like the SHR driver landed a few blows on LaJoie before being pulled back by crew members on Pit Road.
