Ever since NASCAR introduced the playoffs in 2004, the sport has been drastically different. While the champion was decided by getting the most points over the course of the season, it all changed with the winner being announced at the final race. And since 2020, the championship-deciding race has been at Phoenix. However, Bubba Wallace’s spotter believes this is the reason the Championship has lost it’s charm, taking Kyle Larson as an example.

After many drivers like Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty dominated the NASCAR field, the officials felt it was time for a change. And we got playoffs in a major motorsport series with the intention to keep races interesting. Now, whether it succeeded at it or not is for the fans to decide.

However, Bubba Wallace’s spotter, Freddie Kraft thinks it did the opposite, as the championship lost its ‘luster’. He said in a recent episode of Door, Bumper, Clear!, “The Championship doesn’t have the same luster it had when it was a season-long battle of Championship. Last year’s championship was decided by a pit-stop.”

He is talking about the 2021 Cup Series Champion who, according to Kraft, won the race in the pit lane. “Let’s be honest, Kyle Larson won the race on pit road, he won the Championship. The winning 60 races, you talk about the Daytona 500s, I feel like that’s much more prestigious.”

Moreover, he feels the more important races like the Daytona are more prestigious than the Championship, “I’d rather have 60 race wins than ‘no I won the race off pit road and now I’m the champion'”

But the 2021 Cup Series Champion doesn’t think he’s the one who messed up as He said“If it was my fault, I’m sorry, I don’t think it was. It’s hard to see on this pit road, I don’t know if fans, the people realize when you’ve got debris all over your windshield, the sun shining right in your face, it’s hard to see your stall.”
