Michael Jordan's jab at Denny Hamlin—Is it all in good fun or a harsh reality check?

Tyler Reddick won the NASCAR Cup Series Regular Season Championship in dramatic fashion at the Southern 500. Despite battling a severe stomach illness, Reddick managed to finish 10th in the race, which was just enough to secure the championship by a single point over Kyle Larson. With this, one of the newest teams in NASCAR claimed a championship. But the main Cup Series title is still up for grabs.

Tyler Reddick is comfortably in the playoffs, but the same cannot be said for Bubba Wallace. After Reddick claimed the regular season championship, Denny Hamlin, co-team owner, put up a post on Instagram that caught the attention of the masses. Hamlin claimed to have won his first championship, and his partner and team co-owner, Michael Jordan, had something to say about that.

Denny Hamlin was quick to announce that he won a championship; however, it was not as a driver. Hamlin has been chasing the Cup Series Championship for 20 years now, but without winning the title himself, he decided to bask in the glory of being a championship team owner.

The post by Denny Hamlin saying, “Finally won a championship”, started to gain a lot of traction on the internet, as many fans were confused as to how that came to be. Hamlin cleared out in the post by adding “As an owner.”

In a post on Instagram, the team was celebrating the win as Michael Jordan congratulated the members. When Hamlin walked by the trophy, he said, “Now I might as well at least touch it.” Poking fun at his partner in the team, Jordan replied, “That’s hot. You’ve got one of these?” After everyone laughed, Jordan told Hamlin, “You do now.”

In response to what Jordan said, Hamlin playfully defended himself, saying, “Only one I got says champion on it from Daytona.” This showed how the team likes to joke around with each other. Despite Denny Hamlin not winning the regular season championship, he managed to push his team to victory. Now all that remains for him is to focus on the playoffs and try to claim the title that has always been so close, but yet so far.

Denny Hamlin’s post on Instagram was not only noticed by fans, as the post reached Kyle Larson’s radar. That’s where the driver who missed out on the regular season championship had something interesting to say.

Kyle Larson was obviously disappointed to lose the victory after being so close all season long. So when he saw Denny Hamlin’s post, it was obvious that he shared his thoughts. Although Larson was disappointed to not win the championship, he stood in support of 23XI Racing and celebrated their win.

Kyle Larson took to X (formerly Twitter) to reply to Hamlin claiming the championship by jokingly saying, “Ehh, not technically.” After making the controversial statement, he then added, “Seriously though, congrats. Great team.” Although the win was taken away from Larson by Reddick, he still had the sportsmanship to congratulate the team that won the championship.

Just like Denny Hamlin, Kyle Larson is also well into the playoffs and this means that the season is not yet over. Although the regular season championship was given to 23XI Racing and Reddick, the main Cup Series Championship is still up for grabs.
