After a reasonably successful debut season in the 2021 Cup Series, 23XI Racing has new plans. This includes the purchase of a second charter to accommodate the recruitment of Kurt Busch. Apparently, #11 Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin shelled out $13.5 million to buy the charter.

Speaking about the purchase, he said, “All it did was tell me that my investment last year of $4 million, was a good investment. Not ideal, but if we plan on being in this sport for a long time, then we’re all placing a bet. Hopefully our chips don’t get taken off the table. The people that have needed charters, now have them. Until there’s new people that want to come in the sport, I don’t know if there is any demand now at this point. I got a sheet I had to sign, that’s what I had for $13.5 million.”

Will this pay off for Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan?

Hopefully, it should pay off handsomely for the 1-year-old organization. They have taken a massive gamble by purchasing StarCom Racing. However, Hamlin and Jordan hope that Kurt Busch’s experience will work wonders for them. Additionally, Bubba Wallace is steadily proving his worth, if his Talladega win is any proof.

With Busch in the other garage, the 23XI Racing team can only move upwards from here. This is because the veteran driver will be able to provide a lot of input for the team and Wallace can learn a lot from him. Considering that everyone will be running in the Next Gen cars, Busch’s importance will be enhanced even further.

Of course, the likes of Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan will also be there to help out. After all, this is a joint venture between the NASCAR driver and the NBA legend. So, they have a lot riding on this project, especially if they want to stick around in the long term.
