Besides being a high-value sport in popularity in the US, NASCAR is also a $100 million entertainment business. And with the fans’ viewership being one of its prime sources of revenue, it goes without saying that NASCAR invests priceless hours to address what the fans want out of the sport more than anything else. Owing to its popularity, even Hollywood has incorporated elements of NASCAR in its movies since time immemorial. Talladega Nights, Greased Lightning, The Last American Hero, Stroker Ace; the list of movies just doesn’t seem to end.

Even action megastar Tom Cruise directed his 1990 movie, Days of Thunder, starring himself, Nicole Kidman, and Robert Duvall, based loosely on the lives and careers of Tim Richmond and Geoff Bodine. But that was way back in time. Tom Cruise is expected to bring back the usual thrill and action in the theater with a sequel to Days of Thunder, with Joseph Kosinski, the director of Top Gun-Maverick. Indeed, a movie that ignited the need for speed in everyone’s mind, but that’s not the only reason why the fans on Reddit were so excited.

In the 1990 film, Cruise plays the role of a young and talented speedster Cole Trickle who feels like a fish out of water, as everything about NASCAR intimidated him when wealthy race team owner Tom Daland (Randy Quaid) hired him.

When Tom Cruise and Tony Scott joined hands to make Days of Thunder, everyone had expected the movie to make Top Gun money. Unfortunately, it didn’t even come close. However, it is on the sets of Days of Thunder that Tom Cruise met someone with whom he has collaborated for the longest time in his acting career.

It was none other but his wife (now ex-wife) Nicole Kidman. The couple married the same year and starred in Far and Away in 1992 and Eyes Wide Shut in 1999, before parting ways in 2001.

This is exactly what the fans needed to say about it.
