In the fast-paced world of NASCAR, drivers’ decisions can create waves of excitement and concern among fans and teams alike. One such decision has recently sent shockwaves through the racing community, as Spire Motorsports driver Corey LaJoie revealed his future plans in true Leonardo DiCaprio style.

Tony Stewart and Rick Hendrick both had their eyes on the 31-year-old driver. But they would be massively disappointed after hearing LaJoie’s announcement.

The upcoming season presents a significant challenge for the Stewart Haas Racing team. They face the daunting task of replacing veterans Aric Almirola and Kevin Harvick. Rick Hendrick was also quick to call on Corey LaJoie’s talents when he urgently needed a substitute for Chase Elliott. Though LaJoie’s debut with Hendrick Motorsports resulted in a 21st-place finish at the Illinois 300, Hendrick commended Corey for stepping up to the occasion.

Corey LaJoie signs a multi-year deal to stay with Spire Motorsports

Corey LaJoie’s name had been circulating as a potential replacement for Almirola, with the #10 spot at Stewart-Haas Racing being the target. But, despite the interest from several larger teams, Corey LaJoie made a bold decision to re-sign with Spire Motorsports. He believes in the team’s potential to become a consistently competitive organization and values the importance of continuity and a supportive team environment. Spire Motorsports recently announced a partnership with Gainbridge as the primary sponsor for 16 total races, further cementing their position and possibly deterring other teams from pursuing LaJoie.

He made the announcement of the new multi-year deal through a Leonardo DiCaprio-style tweet. “I’m not leaving.”

He also talked about his decision in-depth on his podcast, Stacking Pennies, where he first broke the news. “The announcement is that I’m going to be doing just the same thing I’m doing now for the next several years at Spire Motorsports. So I’m excited about that,” said LaJoie.

He was asked about his race in the #9 of Chase Elliott and if that experience had any bearing on his decision. “So you talk about the Rick Hendrick. How much did that experience being in the #9 car and it not going the way that you thought it would kind of open your eyes, like okay, I need a team that’s built around me to stay in Spire or the wheels were already in motion before that?”

“The wheels were already in motion before that,” LaJoie said. “But it did show me how important continuity is and also having a group that really is all in. I’m excited to just keep that continuity going and there’s a lot of good stuff behind the scenes…”

With an average finish of 19.7, a significant improvement from last year’s 24.3, he has shown impressive progress. His current 27th position in the standings places him with an outside chance of getting into the playoffs.

Speaking to Athletic.com, Corey LaJoie shared his thoughts on what he could achieve with his team in the current season and even beyond that. “We’re just performing to what we all thought we were capable of. I think we still have some ways to go. I think we have opportunities to sneak a win out here, either at Atlanta or Daytona at the end of the regular season, and just keep going consistent.”
