Martin Truex Jr came out on top at the end of the Cup race at the Martinsville Speedway. In the process, he became the first driver to take a second Cup win in 2021. Behind him on the track were defending champion Chase Elliott and championship leader, Denny Hamlin.

In the aftermath of the race, he spoke about how his race went. “I feel really good about our team, overall what we can do this year. Our cars are strong. Our team is strong. We’ve been together a long time. Obviously last year James was the new piece moving to crew chief, but, man, he’s done a great job. Last year, for whatever reason, seemed like we were missing the tiniest little things. Sometimes it wasn’t even things we were doing wrong.

“Sometimes you feel like things aren’t meant to be, honestly,” he said.

The 41-year-old declared that he had a good feeling about his race. He praised his team and acknowledged that his pit crew were really up to the task. Martin Truex Jr was really happy that the Joe Gibbs Racing team executed a great final stop which was instrumental in getting him into the lead.

He confessed that he could not believe that he won the race, especially since he did not have the most dominant car on the track. Truex Jr also enjoyed a great battle with his teammate and championship rival, Denny Hamlin. Hopefully, for his sake, this win will help propel him ahead of his teammate.

Considering that Hamlin has not won a race, compared to Truex’s two, it is a matter of time before he leapfrogs him. On the other hand, there is a chance that Hamlin could finally reach Victory Lane and extend his championship lead. However, he will also have to watch out for other contenders who will be just as quick and hungry to win.
